@QasimRashid@mastodon.social And the #USA of today is not the one I knew in the 1990s and early-mid 2000s, it is unrecognizable (fortunately came back home to Peru). Some weeks ago I saw this #PBS documentary that details that the fascist and extreme political leanings in #USA are not new. It was eye-opening

Now I personally haven't watched a lot of PBS. But I grew up in a place that has a strong public service tradition, and I feel this is appropriate as an general public service appreciation post 😊 We're already seeing the hollwing out of public service in Europe, but let's try not to grow up to become bad people 😁 @humor@fedigroups.social @humor@lemmy.world @aiop #PublicService#Yle #SVT #PBS #Meme #Meme #Funny #Woke #Comedy #Humour

The latest edition of the #PBS News show Horizons has an excellent piece on a science study published in Nature last month that found that over half of migratory birds globally are now in decline. Most of the show is a thoughtful interview with the lead author of that research, Peter Marra. The interview is quite sobering, although I appreciate Peter's hopeful response that birds have rebounded from stupid things we've done before (over-hunting of egrets and herons for feathers for hats, and widespread use of DDT insecticides on farms). Watch to the end for information on another recent science study showing that bird watching is good for our brains. 😀 I've also put a link below to an article on #TheConversation that Peter wrote with a co-author about their migratory bird research. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/video/horizons/2026/07/the-alarming-decline-of-bird-populations-and-why-humans-should-care https://theconversation.com/more-than-half-of-earths-migratory-bird-species-are-declining-heres-how-we-can-still-save-them-287947 #birds #conservation #MigratoryBirds #nature #biodiversity

The alarming decline of bird populations and why humans should care - Horizons

Birds are not only wondrous creatures that live amongst us, they’re also an essential part of life on Earth – helping grow food, keeping pests at bay and spreading seeds. But more than half of migratory bird populations are declining globally. Horizons moderator William Brangham explores the threats birds are facing with ornithologist Peter Marra of the Earth Commons at Georgetown University.

Anoxinon e.V. #Anoxinon #Mastodon #RAID #Restore #Backup #Proxmox #ProxmoxBackupServer #PBS #Borg #BorgMatic #PostGres #Datenbank #DB #Fediverse

#PBS call just now; will we do a story on a crack smoker where she lives is subjecting residents to a daily cloud of second hand crack making people there ill. Landlord is non responsive and local police say they are unable to enter his building without a warrant. Really?! Ice Does it! I wanted to tell her to call #ice ; if the crackhead is a minority speaks with any accent or has a tattoo he'll be gone and/or dead by end of day. They could have a whole 'remove my asshole neighbor' side hustle

"In 1971, Tony Brown took over leadership of Black Journal. In 1977, the series transitioned to commercial television under the name Tony Brown’s Journal after many PBS affiliate stations chose not to carry it, preferring instead to air less-controversial public affairs programs. The series returned to public television in 1982 under the new name." https://americanarchive.org/special_collections/black-journal #PBS #Television #Broadcasting #History

The news of #Fox purchasing #Roku is quite depressing. Apparently its #FoxCorp, the Fox News arm. At first I thought perhaps it was being brought under the #Disney owned arm of Fox but that's not the case. This regime has all the big social media sites under their thumb. Their allies have purchased #CBS and now Roku. They have owned #Tubi for years. They are stripping funding and punishing networks with dissenting viewpoints like #NPR and #PBS and #ABC Time to disconnect my Roku TV from the network. Their not gonna get jack shit from me. I'm not going to feed this machine. I have had a media PC hooked up to the TV for the last couple of years and seldom used the TVs apps anyway. The PC is a much better experience. I will certainly miss the TV guide though for OTA TV.

Well, all those YouTube accounts that purport to offer a live stream of the JFKcenter are actually just re-running their Livestream from yesterday. But enter #PBS. They're not purporting to offer a Livestream, but they do offer a photo of the facade of the #KennedyCenter that was taken sometime today. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/nation/trumps-name-removed-from-the-kennedy-center-building-following-court-ordered-deadline So, tarp still up. We still are unable to independently verify that Trump's name is off or the current condition of the #JFKC facade.

Trump's name removed from the Kennedy Center building following court-ordered deadline

Matt Floca, executive director and chief operating officer of the performing arts venue, told a federal court Saturday that the institution had complied with an order to remove Trump's name from the facade.
