On the 30th, my #Walktober was to the old #London #Necropolis #railway station, where thousands of dead were sent by train to Brookwood Cemetery. They've recently revealed their name again - alas not for a re-opening, but I think for a conversion to fancy flats. And then I went to see some scary #StreetArt faces underneath #Waterloo itself (alas no clear artist's signature) #photography #History #halloween #monsters #monsterdon

The Hole Stone (or Crow Stone) in Galloway. Local tradition says that it was used during marriage ceremomies, by joining hands through the hole. A similar tradition is attached to St Kennera's Cross, a 10th century disc headed cross, pierced at the four quarters, at nearby Kirkinner. It stands close to the White Cairn and another stone reputedly once accompanied it, which had gone by the mid-1800s. #Scotland #History #StandingStoneSunday

October is Black History Month in the UK. Black History in the UK is incredibly complex and underrepresented. This month, take time to learn more about the struggles black and mixed-race people have faced through British history. Here's a great resource to get started: https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/learn/histories/black-history/#BlackHistoryMonth #BHMUK #UK #History #FediDiverse
