First #ipv6 related issue, and it's honestly not what I expected. #roku, do better. Enable IPv6.

I've been a happy Roku customer and vocal evangelist of their products for over a decade. Yesterday their bullshit update landed on my devices. Today I own a new Apple TV 4K. There's no feedback channel to reach Roku privately, so I shared feedback publicly. #Roku #Enshittification

Salon.com | With Roku, Fox just won the streaming wars for the right by Sophia Tesfaye AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. In a week that reshaped American media, Fox Corporation announced a $22 billion purchase of Roku while the Justice Department cleared David Ellison’s $111 billion merger of Paramount with Warner Bros. Discovery, giving the son of Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison control of both CBS News and CNN. Together these deals concentrate the most powerful levers of the streaming era—distribution, data and advertising—into the hands of a handful of right‑wing billionaires. By pairing Fox’s news, sports and ad empire with Roku’s operating system, Fox will dominate the TV home‑screen discovery layer, while Ellison’s merged empire will control a vast swath of content production. The article argues that this consolidation marks a shift from the old cable‑carriage model to a new “distribution‑as‑gatekeeper” paradigm, allowing conservative owners to shape what Americans see and hear across the country’s dominant streaming platforms. Besides getting rid of my Roku's, anyone have a solution for when one of them starts making 200,000 requests a day? It's all blocked by my pi-hole and opnsense firewall rules. Just seems a little excessive when compared to the next highest device, another Roku but an older model. #pihole #roku #blocklist

Listen up #Roku people. Ya need to get that TV off the internet. For you midlevel plus nerds.. #Jellyfin works on a local network without internet. #technology #smarttv

tl;dr: i want a foss replacement for roku - anybody have any experience making a diy streaming device? long, you have time to read: #roku just got bought by #fox, eliminating the one "easy" streaming platform that wasn't owned by Google, Amazon, or apple. I've been annoyed with Roku for a while anyway; pervasive ads, obnoxiously unconfigurable views with unhelpful unwanted menu items, etc. but this lit a fire. and yeah, I've googled, and yeah, I've done enough embedded stuff i could hack together something that works even without a guide, but i want to hear from you, dear reader; i want to hear what works from real live queer nerds. yes, this means you. #diy #roku #foss #movies #television #music #streaming

The news of #Fox purchasing #Roku is quite depressing. Apparently its #FoxCorp, the Fox News arm. At first I thought perhaps it was being brought under the #Disney owned arm of Fox but that's not the case. This regime has all the big social media sites under their thumb. Their allies have purchased #CBS and now Roku. They have owned #Tubi for years. They are stripping funding and punishing networks with dissenting viewpoints like #NPR and #PBS and #ABC Time to disconnect my Roku TV from the network. Their not gonna get jack shit from me. I'm not going to feed this machine. I have had a media PC hooked up to the TV for the last couple of years and seldom used the TVs apps anyway. The PC is a much better experience. I will certainly miss the TV guide though for OTA TV.
