Hey, I haven't checked yet, but have the pornography sites survived the certificate and php issues? Asking for a friend. I, of course, only want to know because porn and kittens have been the incentives of internet use for a long time. I can still see kittens, so we're at around 50% incentive safety. 🤣 #internet #fediverse

When I started research on a book about 1916 I spent hours getting my grandparents’ and a couple of others’ birth, marriage and death certificates. With the internet (and Irish government generosity) I now have thousands. If I were in other countries not so, though - they monetise these records #research #internet

I made a new account on #Reddit just to answer a question from someone who was stuck on the current No Man's Sky expedition (I was stuck there too and know the solution to the problem). I won't be spending time on there anymore because all the reasons I left in the first place are still there, but it's worse than ever now. So much garbage. "Earn money on reddit," a billion ridiculous and childish "awards," and the vomit-worthy AI that pops up when you're searching for something. As I suspected when I left, them going IPO sent them straight to the toilet. They were already halfway there but they've hit the metaphorical goal like an asteroid crashing into the planet. Ew. #Enshittification #Internet

AI is TERRIBLE for the #internet If we like it or not, traffic has always been the currency on the web. Many news outlets and #journalists would not be able to do their work without it A lot of this traffic was coming from search engines like #Google, again like it or not. Nowadays Google uses their AI to pull info from sites making visiting websites for info obsolete and in turn killing traffic and a lot of sites For the love of the internet, please DO NOT use the #AI summary but browse!♥️

It’s interesting that people who support age verification have to ask what the problem is. As if it was a big mystery.

Asking people to reveal their personally identification so they can use the internet isn’t a problem that should need to be explained. But since you asked…

  1. Our data can not be protected online. Especially by every random person who has the means to buy a domain and pay for hosting.

  2. Forcing identification is a barrier for many people. That’s exclusion. And in many cases ableism.

  3. Age verification won’t keep kids from using technology. If their parents are that disconnected, they’ll help them through the gates and move on. Restricting access creates a hurdle, not an impasse.

  4. Age verification puts the onus on people using the web instead of the people make parts of it horrible. We are victims of nefarious systems. We are not the problem. The systems are. That should be the focus of solutions.

I get that the #EUKidsAct is getting a lot of negative chatter from the privacy advocates. But at the same time to you have to acknowledge there is a serious problem here. I go out in public, I see parents park their kids in front of a tablet to keep them calm, with next to no supervision. Teenagers are spending on AVERAGE 4-6 hours online per day, instead of going outside and interacting with humans. So let me ask you, genuinely. What are the concerns here? What needs to be addressed?

We have an LG TV 60UH770V (built in 2016). Thank god, it has no microphone. It runs “webOS 3.4.2-570910 (dreadlocks-digya)”. There is no physical network connection. And no LAN and WLAN credentials have ever been set up. It should in theory never have been able to reach the #Internet. It’s frightening to see what internet connected home devices can do. I own the glass! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6IFVTcM28KA (2 hrs. 16 min.) #LG #LGTV #webOS #Surveillance #Privacy #PrivacyMatters #Security #DigitalSecurity
