What's the current state of notability of academic journal papers in #wikidata?
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Notability doesn't seem to mention academic journal papers...

[🚨 #MediaWiki vulnerable extension]
If you are running a MediaWiki instance with Extension:External_Data < v3.7, your instance is vulnerable to arbitrary file loading and #RemoteCodeExecution.
The vulnerability was apparently publicly known since August, but due to the lack of communication, instance admins learned about it due to that vulnerability being exploited en masse.
If you know and like a MediaWiki instance, you can check their Special:Version page to see if they are using the External_Data extension to warn them.

I simply love, how meticulously one can document and source facts on #Wikidata, like in this case the official name of #Gaugrehweiler in #Donnersbergkreis, which was called Untergrehweiler, as I found in a source of 1832 and another one of 1922. In the latter one, the name had already changed to the present one.
Started out as another sleepy day without energy and a terrible frozen pizza for lunch. But then
- did a small #DIY thing (treating a quite freshly drywall corner with sandpaper, which also turned out to require a bit of filling)
- cleaned the bathroom (since I had to shower afterwards anyway)
- did some coding for #WikiTreeBEE in the drying break (Belgian categories in #WikiTree from #Wikipedia/ #Wikidata)

Missed the "Bridging Institutions, Wikidata & Generative AI" talk at Wikimania Paris?
Key Takeaways:
🏛️ GLAMs often back open access (but want AI safeguards) — attribution, context, reciprocity
🔗 An uploads alone doesn't add value. Data needs curation & Wikipedia/Commons sitelinks
🗃️ Institutions can hold data in Wikibase; Wikidata can connect it
🤖 Challenge: open knowledge + sustainable infrastructure

Join in and improve our focus country of the week: 🇸🇨 Seychelles
We need help with verifying some of the work that already has been done. This summer a group of student were working on it (see their report linked on the project page). https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:WikiProject_Govdirectory/Seychelles

🏆 Lexica, a Wikidata tool, has won the Coolest Tool Award at Wikimania 2026 in Paris!
Editing Lexemes on Wikidata means learning concepts like Senses and Forms before making even a small edit — tough on mobile or for newcomers. WikiCollabs built Lexica to fix that: a mobile-friendly web app for contributing to lexicographical data.
🎉 Congrats to the team! Tried Lexica? Tell us in the replies!

Is there a chance that somebody at #Wikimania knows something about the recent loss of years of ahort links to #Wikidata queries on https://query-chest.toolforge.org/ The seeming flushing of all caches at some point earlier this month makes the service utterly useless and caused thousands of links in publications, on websites etc. to rot.

Know a website that use to be on an old domain that's now hosting badware? Here's how to encode that in #wikidata:

Convenient clicky-clicky? Yes
Flexible coding? Also yes
#Wikimedians love reconciling with #Wikidata. #Journalists love that it works locally, keeping their work safe and private. #Scientists love storing all the changes made to their #datasets in a json.
