That’s a fantastic talk. I listen to it about once a year and it still holds up (as in the systemd haters are still mostly salty and uninterested in building a better alternative) The only somewhat serious build-an-alternative-project I know of is Chimera Linux, see their FAQ: chimera-linux.org/docs/faq#what-is-the-projects-t…

124 land defenders killed in 2025. 43% Indigenous. 85% in Latin America. Colombia 39, fourth year running. Same calendar year: global development aid fell 23%, the steepest drop ever recorded, and Colombia's human rights office let nearly half its staff go. #HumanRights #ClimateJustice #Indigenous #LandDefenders #News #Journalism #Solidarity

"If LLMs were a toy, they’d be taken off the shelves. If LLMs were a drug, they would be banned." Ed Zitron in fact they are both : a very addictive toy (but unfortunately they are still far away from being banned...) https://www.wheresyoured.at/ai-is-already-in-dangerous-hands/#what-actually-happened-in-the-hugging-face-attack #IAgen #IA

Why Community Matters: Groups as the Next Step for the Fediverse

Federated groups in Bonfire will be spaces where communities gather to organise, care, and coordinate across the fediverse. They'll live next to your personal feed, but each group having a specific purpose: a study circle, a lab team, an activist collective, a local mutual aid crew, a project team. Inside you’ll find posts, conversations, calendars, shared resources, and more. Crucially, groups will be portable and interoperable.
