pretty rare to be able to post good news about EA. even rarer to post an EA software preservation story. the last time was EA mythic getting archived by the wcnews.com team - 15 years ago. this time it's EA itself doing an incredible job doing the digitizing, and this little team deserves huge credit for doing the heavy lifting this is crazy good high quality archival work from betacam sp and more obscure tape formats. the best part? they retrofitted the hq footage back into the original games. Wing Commander 1, 2, 3, 4, Prophecy, and Privateer 2 all got a major hd refresh. https://www.ea.com/news/from-the-vault-to-your-library well done 🙏 #digiPres #retrogaming #dosGaming

I don’t play a lot of games on my devices, and am not that good at those that I do play. With that lead in, I do like playing Frenzic by @Iconfactory@iconfactory.world which is now available for free 😳 in Ollie’s Arcade (which in turn includes 3 other retro games). Go treat yourself to a bit of retro fun. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/ollies-arcade/id6446127619 Here’s my highest Frenzic store…yeah, not that good. #iconfactory #retrogaming #arcadegames

Despite owning a pile of the BASIC type in adventure books from Usborne in the 80's for my #ZXSpectrum I really was not into text adventures at all as a kid. That all changed when being introduced to an online MUD in 1992 when starting university, first playing, then coding on it creating a whole complex area of the map. (LPC was also the first object orientated programming language I used, before giving C a go!) When I started programming on the SAM Coupe in 1993 I did have a few attempts at adventure based stuff. First with a very simple adventure driver written in BASIC (I had yet to venture towards #Z80 machine code!) which held room info in DATA statements) then I made the start on a program to rip the room descriptions out of the LPC files I had from I had coded for the MUD. (I still have a copy of these from 30+ years ago!) I'll be looking at this more in the forthcoming Adventure section in 'SAM Revival' magazine... #TextAdventure #InteractiveFiction #samcoupe #retrogaming

I've noticed that my home feed is looking bare here, so I think it is time for a re #introduction of sorts (even though I've been here forever) I'm a gaming journalist who covers handheld gaming mostly. So if you're interested in: #gaming#emulation#RetroGaming #Linux#OpenSource#Nintendo, #Sony & #Xbox#FOSS and the #PSP ...or no someone I might be interested in following, then let me know! Time to populate my feed again :)

Thank you, #Bioware. Your characters and stories will always hold a special place in my memory. I still remember pulling all-nighters playing Baldur’s Gate instead of studying for uni 🙈 Truly some of the best games of a generation. Baldur's Gate (1998) Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000) Neverwinter Nights (2002) Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003) Mass Effect (2007) Mass Effect 2 (2010) Dragon Age: Origins (2009) Dragon Age II (2011) Dragon Age: Inquisition (2014) #retrogaming #gaming #retrogames

🤦 Facepalm of the day The famous retro YouTuber "The 8-Bit Guy" decided to alienate his core audience and destroy his whole reputation with a single video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmgeFTAk2a8 (He "made" a "movie" with genAI that he will show in a cinema. The vast majority of the thousands of comments on the video are extremely negative.) #retro #retrogaming #neverslop #noai #8bit #the8bitguy

I made something... Very Different.

LEGO 72051 Donkey Kong Arcade, a 1,367-piece cabinet that genuinely plays. Joysticks move Mario on X and Y axes while you feed barrels in from the top, mechanically simulating Miyamoto's 1981 original. Pauline stays unrescued, alas. 39cm tall. Out 1 August 2026, €169.99 / £149.99 / US$199.99. Downside: mostly stickers rather than printed elements! #LEGO #Nintendo #DonkeyKong #AFOL #RetroGaming

"Star Trek: Borg" is a 1996 FMV game that takes place simultaneously at First Contact and also Wolf 359 due to Q interference. The plot is that Q appears to a cadet during the First Contact incident. This cadet lost his father at Wolf 359 and Q gives him a chance to go back and save his dad. The sets, the acting by John De Lancie, the plot. It's all good. It's worth it for any #StarTrek fan. It's like an extra episode that exists and no one talks about. https://youtu.be/EzvL2XaJUno?is=53a3YJcHpzgJCGsd #retrogaming
