False claims of illegal obscenity for minors, inclusion of #LGBTQIA+ characters or themes, & covering topics of #race, #racism, #equity, & #socialjustice are the common justifications for #censorship of a #library book. Today’s the start of #BannedBooksWeek. Check out this year’s Top 11 Most Challenged #Books at https://bannedbooksweek.org/ And if you choose to buy one of them, please consider bookshop.org instead of Amazon. They support local bookshops near you: https://bookshop.org/

This is an issue particularly close to my heart - women's basic physiology is far from understood, chronically underfunded and understudied. This needs to change to improve health outcomes. Here @PLOSBiology@fediscience.org calls for more funding for basic research in this area & more exposure of the results https://plos.io/4ckiAOu There's a pressing need, in view of constant headlines such as the recent publication by the Spanish Nutrition Agency of recommendations for women during menopause based entirely on data obtained in males. #WomensHealthcare #equity

Hey, fedi. What smaller non-profits do you recommend for donations?

Some beautiful people have been tipping me for my articles and my accessibility app. That gives me the warm fuzzies.

But I’m going to donate those tips, because other folks need them more. And I’m going to replace my tips links with non-profit donation links.

My current list:

  1. Sogorea Te’ Land Trust
  2. Audre Lorde Project
  3. Equal Justice Initiative
  4. STEM Like a Girl

Who are your faves?
