@ApostateEnglishman@mastodon.world You, of course, entitled to your opinion.

I’d like to point out that the #Fed is nothing like the #toxic #corporate platforms you rightly condemn. It isn’t for two main reasons (there are others but these are preference-based):

  1. Your fedi #Mastodon feed is curated by you. You see only what you want to see (normally via #hashtags).

  2. There is nothing pushed to your timeline through algorythms (which is what is happening on the other platforms for propaganda purposes as well as other nefarious practices). What you see are real people and not bots (the later are usually reported and blocked very quickly, plus, you can block them yourself with a mere two clicks)

I’d like to add a third, although this one is choice-based depending on your own interests and preferences. You pick the Instance depending on whom you wish to converse with and share the same interests (or otherwise if you prefer).

@FediTips@social.growyourown.services can help you navigate Your preferences.

Be well, and if you’re still using #TechBros software, get onto something equivalent that is not (you can ask the fediverse brain trust for examples).

The rationale for the rate increase was evident in the #Fed’s latest projections. It showed #inflation, as measured by the Personal Consumption Expenditures price index, ending the year at 3.7%,slightly higher than officials thought just 3 months ago & in line with current levels. They also revised up estimates for “core” inflation, which strips out volatile #food & #energy items, to 3.4%. The 2% target is not expected to be reached until 2029 [ouch]. #FederalReserve #KevinWarsh #Trump #economy

2 BMO: #Treasury #yields are little changed, with the #10-year sitting at 4.61%, while the #2-year has drifted somewhat higher. Still, yesterday's soft #CPI report is ringing and, alongside testimony from #Fed Chair #Warsh, the market has scaled back near-term rate-hike odds. 🧵 #markets

The Atlantic | Alan Greenspan Was ‘Not Quite God’ by Annie Lowrey AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Alan Greenspan, who died at 100, shaped the Federal Reserve’s reputation for independence and stability during his 1987‑2006 tenure, steering the economy through Black Monday, the early‑1990s recession, the dot‑com bubble and the Asian financial crisis while fostering a prolonged period of price stability and “great moderation” that bolstered public confidence; his understated, sometimes cryptic communication earned him a semi‑mythic “not quite God” status, but his faith in lightly regulated markets left the Fed vulnerable to the 2008 crisis his successor Ben Bernanke inherited, and although later chairs such as Jerome Powell acted decisively during COVID‑19, the era’s growing anti‑institutional sentiment and partisan politics now threaten the very independence Greenspan fought to preserve. The ruling is the most consequential case for the Fed’s future, for now fending off the politicization of an institution that’s responsible for being a technocratic steward of the #US #economy. In the end, the decision — which came months after the court struck down Trump’s sweeping emergency #tariffs — suggests that the longstanding principle of #independence for the #Fed was a line that not even #Trump could cross. #law #SCOTUS #economy #democracy
