Stop Asking Permission to Create Your Life | Chase Jarvis

Hey friends, Chase here Let’s talk about reality. Not the abstract, philosophical version. Not the version you argue about over coffee or read about in some dusty book. I mean the reality you wake up inside every day. The job. The schedule. The obligations. The story you tell yourself about what is “practical.” The version

How to Find Your Creative Voice | Chase Jarvis

Hey friends, Chase here Let’s talk about one of the most important questions every creator eventually asks: How do I find my creative voice? Or maybe you’ve heard it framed another way: How do I develop a personal style? How do I make work that actually feels like mine? How do I stop copying what

  1. Dunkin’ Strawberry Dragonfruit Daydream Refresher, light on the concentrate, fill with more oat milk.

  2. Tackled my biggest and most dreaded task first thing today - calling the IRS. (Probably not the best thing to try and do on a Monday morning as the hold time was 30-60 minutes, so I hung up and will try again tomorrow). Even tho the call wasn’t completed, I am happy I tried.

  3. Started on a new art project using an old magazine as the base. Tearing out some pages so that there’s room for collaging and gluing some pages together for strength. The result will be a one-of-a-kind altered magazine filled with collages made from images and papers I love.

The Courage to Be Yourself: E.E. Cummings on Art, Life, and Being Unafraid to Feel

“To be nobody-but-yourself — in a world which is doing its best, night and day, to make you everybody else — means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight.”

Fascinating interview with Brian Eno from 1995 about the future of music. Couple of predictions were spot on. Also involves talk about art, boundaries, creativity, processes and systems, plus a bunch of other stuff. https://www.wired.com/1995/05/eno-2/ #process #system #creativity #art #design #music

Gossip is Philosophy

Kevin Kelly talks to the prototypical Renaissance 2.0 artist about why music has ceased to be the center of our cultural life, why art doesn't make any difference anymore, and why Brian Eno offers no resistance to seduction.

Am I bored?

Roger over at Contains Moderate Peril wrote a nice piece on boredom and what it means to him. I've had some time to ponder and developed some of my own thoughts on the topic. As per usual I am sharing those ideas here out of a desire to break up my day and relieve some [...]

Comparison and Contrast peacegroover@devinatart Comparison is dumb. There will always be someone smarter, prettier, richer, funnier, more talented, more articulate, more successful, more spiritual, more emotionally aware— and someone poorer, uglier, clumsier, more confused, and dumber than you. So what? Look up long enough, and you’ll feel inferior. Look down long enough, and you’ll feel superior. Both are lies. Another person’s brilliance does not diminish yours. Their beauty does not make you ugly. Their success does not make you a failure. There is no human scoreboard. You are not here to outrank everyone else. You are here to become yourself. Every Friday, I meet a member of the British Fantasy Society and peer deep into their soul (or, at least, a form they filled out). Join us to celebrate the release of Marco Michelutto's new novel, and meet the real-world dog that he put into his fantasy academic world. https://britishfantasysociety.org/meet-marco-michelutto/ #fantasy #writers #writing #writingcommunity #creativity #books #fantasyacademia
