Marsh sun orchid (Thelymitra longiloba) in Croajingolong NP, East Gippsland, VIC. This plant has slightly wider petals and sepals than more typical 'star-like' flowering forms. "Rabbit Ears" is one of the most common sun orchids around Anglesea (VIC), and is now appearing in bloom. The flowers are about 25mm (~1") wide. Grevillea macleayana flowering in coastal heathland near Ulladulla, NSW. These coastal plants (sometimes referred to as the 'Racecourse Creek' form) with mostly entire, elliptic leaves and a semi-prostrate habit when young offer a lot as garden plants but I'm not sure when I last saw one available in a nursery or native plant sale. G. macleayana was elevated to a species (from G. barklyana ssp. macleayana) in 1994. In 2022 two more species were separated from G. macleayana - G. gilmourii (previously known as the Deua form') and G. milleriana (from one plant!) Unfortunately the only Grevillea I regularly see for sale along the south coast from this set of species is a 'Grevillea barklyana' which is actually a hybrid with finely toothed leaves. If I ever track down a stock plant of the coastal Racecourse Creek form I'm going to try a few cuttings - can think of several coastal gardens I work on that these would look great in! #Grevilleas #Proteaceae #OzPlants #Biodiversity #Ecology #Botany #Photography #Spring #InTheField #Bloomscrolling

Time for another lovely orchid from Anglesea (VIC); this one from yesterday after a couple of warm, windy days. This is a Hare Orchid - Leptoceras menziesii - the first I've seen. Caladenia hillmanii (purple-heart fingers) in open forest at Jervis Bay, NSW. Some variation in flower size, shape and colour at this location with some plants not having the distinctive maroon labellum side-lobes this species is known for.
