Happy International Coffee Day, my friends! Sometimes the fedi provides me great joy and solidarity, and this is one of those days. Love your posts! @CindyWeinstein@zirk.us has been combining the #3goodThings with #coffee and it's been incredibly cool to hear about other's experiences and memories. Mine:

  1. Any post surgery real cup of coffee! Notably after sinus surgery, getting the nose-noodles (stints) taken out- 2 weeks post surgery. That drive through coffee window blasted me with the most intoxicating smell, and the latte was amazing!
  2. My dad's coffee. Coffee with my dad. Can't seem to reproduce it. It's just drip.
  3. The smell of freshly ground beans. Getting a new pound of espresso from Petaluma Coffee and Tea. Sitting in my car with that bag just emitting goodness. Freshly ground, good coffee, can have such a heady aroma. It's as good as the post sex smell (good sex). Sorry for being blunt.

@CindyWeinstein@zirk.us honoring the good things of coffee for the coffee day: 1- growing up as a sheltered Mormon whose religion prohibits "hot drinks," I had my first coffee at 15 years old from a circle k convenience store. Loaded with creamers. I brought it to the counter and they didn't id me, my naivety about the limits of religion had me thinking that they wouldn't sell this item to me without an ID, like tobacco. The coffee tasted like liberation. 2- long after leaving religion I came back to coffee, settling in with a caramel macchiato as my favorite. It took me years to break out of the sugared coffees before realizing that I really prefer a breve sans sugar. (and the occasional afogato, which I kept forgetting the name of until I realized that I-forgot-o the name sounds like afogato) 3- spending new years in a coffee grove growing in the north of Thailand. The quiet peace of coffee shrubs growing amid banana and papaya trees and all of the old growth trees above us all. This amazing magical bean that brings me joy and focus, grows delightfully right from the Earth, her gift to us each morning. #coffee #3goodthings #ThreeGoodThings #blog #BlessedConsciousLife

#3GoodThings (In honor of National #Coffee Day, I wanted to share some memories of ☕ . I have many more. Anyone else want to share?)

  1. When I was learning how to drive (when driver's ed used to be free in HS), my mom would let me practice by letting me drive to Friendly's where I grew to love coffee. Lots of it.

  2. Sitting @ the Dunkin' Donuts in Cedar Grove, #NJ w/my Dad. Eating donuts, drinking coffee, connecting.

  3. Writing my dissertation in #Berkeley w/Peets. 1 cup per page!

#GoodMorning and good #tzag. Putting my #BOFH hat on this morning, because I'm not putting up with the BS from teachers today. They can thank traffic today for my demeanor. :flan_executioner: That said, I'll continue with my #coffee today to bring me to better spirits as the day progresses. :flan_coffee::flan_calm:

"People are poor and telling them not to cut #forest wood makes no sense. There was no motivation for them to guard the forest. "So our innovation to plant and embed #coffee trees amongst the fast-growing indigenous #trees quickly won over local communities. They realized that with coffee trees they can harvest the beans, earn from sales and exports, find jobs cultivating and tending and be able to afford food, healthcare or education for their kids." #rewilding

Indonesian coffee is a passion of mine. When I lived there I had the honor of trying coffee from all over the country. They also have an especially excellent specialty coffee scene. I’ve had delicious coffee comparable to the best hipster coffee in California, even inside wet markets in small towns in Java (at a coffee counter..) When I was in Kuala Lumpur last week, I found a small micro-roaster called Blitz and Co inside a coworking space. Aqmal Hadi the owner / roaster is super passionate about his craft. He excitedly showed me a batch of Liberica beans and said ‘bet you haven’t had this before!’ And gave us cup after cup of really delicious coffee. One even smelled like blue cheese! I was so impressed I ordered a kilo. Turns out that these coffee producers in Wonosalam, East Java, just won a national award for best green beans. Aqmal shared his thoughts on why we don’t often hear about specialty coffee using Robusta or Liberica, but he’s bullish on up and coming producers and roasters taking over family businesses and starting new types of production and roasting that will be suitable for ‘third wave’ coffee. East Java is one of my favorite places on earth and I hope to return some time soon. #Coffee #Indonesia #Java
