Leaf mold is an excellent additive to plant beds and pots. It can be used as a potting medium, either on its own or in a mix by adding other elements like perlite, vermiculite, peat moss–based potting soil, sand, etc. Obviously it’s wonderful to make your own potting medium, from both a financial and a footprint-reduction and peatlands-conservation perspective. Plus, it’s great fun and not much work. #gardening #rewilding #fall

Hi everyone! I'm Massimo, the person behind Inner Rewild, a small independent project exploring biodiversity, rewilding and our relationship with the living world through games, digital tools and stories. I'm here to learn, exchange ideas and connect with people working on conservation, ecological connectivity and new ways of engaging with nature. Happy to be here, and thanks for the warm welcome! #introduction #biodiversity #rewilding

“In a normal park, we estimated there were about 30 species of wild bees,” says Jens Ulrich, a former University of British Columbia (UBC) PhD student who worked with the city between 2021 and 2024 to study the meadows’ ability to attract wild #bees and hoverflies. “In a park with a meadow, we saw that number jump up to something around 60 species per park – per year.” #rewilding #vancouver #bc #pollinators #meadows #parks #urbanrewilding #insects #canada

Affric Highlands/Afraig Mhòr: "From the vast waters of Loch Ness to the rugged sea lochs of the west, the Affric Highlands rewilding landscape stretches across an ancient, mountainous region shaped by thousands of years of connection between people and nature...it’s a place of rare wildlife, deep-rooted culture, and untold ecological potential." https://affrichighlands.org/ #SolarPunkSunday #WildLifeCorridors #WildLife #BioDiversity #ReWilding #Scotland #Ecology

"People are poor and telling them not to cut #forest wood makes no sense. There was no motivation for them to guard the forest. "So our innovation to plant and embed #coffee trees amongst the fast-growing indigenous #trees quickly won over local communities. They realized that with coffee trees they can harvest the beans, earn from sales and exports, find jobs cultivating and tending and be able to afford food, healthcare or education for their kids." #rewilding

“Because honeybees aren’t native, they disproportionately love non-native plants … and that includes lots of invasive plant species,” MacIvor says. “One of the biggest visitors to a lot of these non-native and invasive plants are honeybees, [and they] then set seeds and spread.” #rewilding #bees #pollinators #gardening #honey #landscaping

Once Upon a Forest: A Twig Poet’s Rewilding Journey (18 mins) As a child, Maria struggled to fit into a conventional life. But the forest—with its gnarled twigs and quiet strength—offered her a path to healing and purpose. Now known as Sweden’s “twig poet,” she transforms nature’s remnants into powerful sculptures and poetry. She replanted thousands of leaf trees that tried to grow in ditches or under electric lines and wouldn't have had a chance there, and put them in her family's bark-beetle decimated spruce monoculture. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5ozGHIK03A #rewilding #forest #sweden #ClimateAnxiety #BarkBeetle #ClimateChange #restoration #NatureTherapy #Biodiversity
