How to sew a muscle tank shirt from fabric scraps (Gentle Living Shop) Public domain video tutorial for sewing a muscle tank upcycled from fabric scraps. You can watch the T-shirt video mentioned in the tutorial at fedi.video/w/rDLvCqLii3jn34nDaa2g4D and there are written instructions including the instruction PDF on the Gentle Living Shop website at gentlelivingshop.org/upcycled-muscle-tank.html (NOTE: This public domain video was originally uploaded to PeerTube by its creators Gentle Living Shop, but the server their videos were on closed down and I was unable to reach them to find out if they had a new account elsewhere. As they had already released all their videos and materials to the public domain under CC Zero licence, I've started uploading their videos onto my own server so that people can still watch them on PeerTube.)

Sewing fedi, perhaps you can help me brainstorm some fabric questions. One: I'd love to find a fabric that has the same vibe as velvet (intended for lapel facings), something that looks fancy and vaguely gothic and luxurious, but that can handle rain and machine washing. The best thing I can currently think of is cotton flannel, but that doesn't quite scratch the itch. Edit: just realised cotton satin might be a viable option… not quite the same vibe as velvet, but washable and definitely more on the fancy end of things (even if not as much as silk) Two I need a fabric that's as warm as possible, but can also handle machine washing (or, at minimum, hand washing). This is intended for a dressing gown type garment, meant to regularly be worn on naked skin, and it should keep the wearer reasonably warm (open window, autumn and winter). Ideal would be as warm as cashmere knit, but that's unlikely; still, the warmer it can keep the wearer, the better. Again the best thing I can think of is cotton flannel and that's kind of unsatisfactory. Edit: I suppose terrycloth would work… a bit too close to a bathrobe for my liking, but maybe as a lining material? It traps lots of air (and thus warmth) and takes machine washing no problem. #AskFedi #Sewing #Clothes

IN OTHER NEWS

need to vent about #shoes #clothes #fashion and the #sewing industry

  1. why the fuck are sizes US9 EU40 and up still considered too big for women’s shoes? in the vast miasma of consumerist fashion, there are still not that many options for people like me

  2. this includes all clothes including sewing patterns. they’re made for 5' 6" women and a size 8. are women outside #nyc that tiny? i basically have to adjust all patterns for height and my tits and ass.

talking about nyc…
