Does anyone in #Chicago or the environs thereof want a large supply of scrap #denim or other #fabric for #sewing or other crafting purposes? I have plenty of scrap jeans and other damaged clothes that I could dump in a recycling bin. But reuse is better than recycling, so if anyone nearby needs textiles I could just give some away instead. Boosts appreciated. It's a long shot, but I'm searching for the secret Chi-town sewing punks.

Today I cut out the lining and interfacing for my coat. Happily I had enough interfacing left over from other projects for this one, but only just! Next up will be sewing these 39 separate pieces together, but I will start that another day. #sewing

I’ve started sewing together the Pixie coat at last! Yesterday I made the button loops (quite fiddly) and today I did the pockets and joined the back and fronts. I can put it on a hanger now so that feels like good progress. #sewing

I managed a little more sewing yesterday and today. The exterior pieces of my jacket are now all joined up and the hood is in place. Next session I will start on all the hidden bits - the facings and lining! #sewing

I’m making good progress - over a couple of sessions I sewed together all the linings and facings for my coat! Next up will be putting it together with the outer coat. The end is in sight 🎉 #sewing

I finally finished my slow sewing project - my 2nd Pixie coat! Very happy with it. It’s not as colourful as the winter one I made, but I went for big feature buttons to make up for that 😆 It was surprisingly difficult to find buttons that would look right with the fabric. These match the lining though. They’re the only thing I bought new - the fabrics and threads are thrifted. Some of you might remember that the fabric was used for 1980s Air NZ uniforms! It should last really well and is a nice weight for a summer coat. (apologies for the poor photo quality- I didn’t dust the mirror enough!) #sewing #thrifting

How to sew a muscle tank shirt from fabric scraps (Gentle Living Shop) Public domain video tutorial for sewing a muscle tank upcycled from fabric scraps. You can watch the T-shirt video mentioned in the tutorial at fedi.video/w/rDLvCqLii3jn34nDaa2g4D and there are written instructions including the instruction PDF on the Gentle Living Shop website at gentlelivingshop.org/upcycled-muscle-tank.html (NOTE: This public domain video was originally uploaded to PeerTube by its creators Gentle Living Shop, but the server their videos were on closed down and I was unable to reach them to find out if they had a new account elsewhere. As they had already released all their videos and materials to the public domain under CC Zero licence, I've started uploading their videos onto my own server so that people can still watch them on PeerTube.)

More Cuteness has entered the fediverse! :neobun_llenn_aww:

For my fellows on mastodon: Please view the post on my instance since it has 12 photos. Depending on your instance you might only see the first 4 and miss all the cuteness!

At long last I can share my newest creation with you: A new JSK I made myself after a pattern from Otome no Sewing (Book 2; Pattern #03).

I am very much in love. The Bunnies on the fabric are like a Polka-Dot but with Bunnies!

I fell in love with the fabric when I saw it in the store and it does make for a super cute JSK. I feel really cute in it. :neobun_llenn_cute:

Breakdown of the Coord:

Head: Headdress I bought from someone that made it Blouse: Some Yillia Blouse JSK: selfmade Shoes: Koi Footwear Gin Military Boots (with red laces) / Koi Footwear Tira Mary Janes / Koi Footwear Darkbloom Black Platform Heels

It took me a longer time to get this one finished. There was a lot trial, measuring and a whole test piece involved. Even this JSK took me a few days to finish. But OMG do I look cute!

I still hate gathering (I did not try string gathering here but used the usual method instead) but making the shirring Panel was super fun. The straps are nice and I really like how the JSK looks and feels. Such nice cotton.

Now I just need to buy a steamer, that when I wash it to get it look nice again. I do really look forward wearing this one out to an event this weekend!

(eth0 find this bunny there! I will be availiable for photos with the cuties. Ask away!)

There are some Notes for you:

  • technically the JSK is not 100% finished. The Bodice should actually have some bows on it. I did not make them yet. I will have to check if I have enough fabric left. Though tbh I like the bodice as is. The waist may need something though.

  • The Dress should actually have Waist-Ties as well. They might help make the JSK a little more filled on the waist area. I have made the Waist Ties but I plan to attach them with buttons and a Buttonhole on the Waist Ties.

  • The headdress is not super fitting since its red/black but I do not have any other atm. Something with floppy bunnyears might be fun tbh. I will see about that.

  • All my shoes are all black, lol. I guess white or red ones might look better here. My favorite here are the Platform Heels tbh. Though the lower Mary Janes look good as well.

  • I am aware the petticoat is slightly too long and peaks out. I have another shorter one on the way I can try sometime.

  • I had some mishaps with the lace so the bunnies are not hopping into the same direction But I am not gonna redo all that lace.

I am just so happy :neobun_llenn_happy:

Second day of the conference! I'm wearing self made jeans that I have shown before (pattern is 1083 201 pattern: https://www.1083.fr/latelierdujeans.html) and a new blouse sewn from one of my altume favorite patterns Butterick B5527. I bought the fabric without any plans and so I didn't have enough of it and improvised: the collar is missing, I used another fabric for the cuff linings and decapitated some peacocks. #sewing #diy

My "notions bag", which is actually a £2 transparent plastic pencil case, is finally starting to break under the strain of the sheer amount of craft bits and bobs it's been holding for years. Happily at this same time, my mam is asking me to fill out my Christmas wishlist with stuff I might need. So, does anyone I know on here have, or know someone who has, a lil shop selling pretty and practical bags of this kind that are available to the UK? Thanks! #Crafts #Sewing #Makers #SmallBusiness

Someone was giving away scrap fabric here, and some awesome serendipity. Someone was cleaning out fabrics owned by their *father*, who was a career long tailor (fine menswear)! Fabric not at all appropriate for the usual quilting people around here. Denim (including Japanese selvedge), and many others menswear fabrics. Now, it appears I either need to sew jeans or a denim jacket. They were extremely happy to have me take these, especially after I sent them photos of my two jackets I sewed. #sewing

My finished pelisse! It's amazing to wear. The heavy trim moves and ripples the skirt in ways I didn't expect. It is very intimidating as well, thanks to the military vibes. The center front facings were surprisingly difficult. I had to snip the piping, then pull the fluff out out of each bit piping enough so it would lay flat. That is 136 piping ends to manage. I then had to make sure the facing had enough tension on piping to keep it flat. The decoration removed over an inch of length from the skirt. Qibbles - I screwed up the lining hem so I wasn't able to get the hem details done. I decided against the center front piping as I wanted to show off the that crisp front edge. And of course the color match. I don't want to see another piece of piping for a looooong time. #sewing #HistoricalCostuming

If you're a sewist in Australia it's getting harder to find decent fabric supplies in-store, now that Lincraft is going online-only. But give Spotlight a miss (and Anaconda and Harris Scarfe) "It was reported in the news today that Lincraft has gone into administration and all stores will be closed. A lot of you are probably thinking of switching to Spotlight. I would encourage you to know first that Spotlight Group was founded by two Israeli billionaires. One of the directors of the company is also the President of the Zionist Foundation of Australia. Spotlight channels money to Israel via its corporate charities division, The Spotlight Foundation. ...Spotlight Group also includes the companies Anaconda, Harris Scarfe, and Mountain Designs. There was a boycott way back in 2023 but it was before most people were fully aware of the situation and may not have picked up much steam." #sewing #BDS #BoycottIsrael

Has anyone out there made their own heated clothing? Either using purchased nichrome wire or harvesting it out of hair dryers? I found an Instructable but it would be nice to talk to someone who'd actually done it. I do community electronics recycling and have access to a lot of old hair dryers and laptop batteries. It would be cool to be able to turn them into heated winter gear. #solarpunkSunday #solarpunk #makers #diy #sewing

Have made a tiny weird pincushion! Or mostly at least, am going to attempt to put some beads on it because I have a lot of them. It's just some quilt leftover pieces, one side backed with a coutil scrap to keep needles from poking through, and the other with scrap linen to make the flimsy cotton less flimsy. The stitch I used was... fine but not optimal. 😅 I'd do it different next time, it's so bulky! Ah. #Sewing #HandSewing
