Mein erster richtiger Fehler unter Linux war ein gelöschter Bootloader. Ich hatte damals keine Ahnung, was GRUB eigentlich ist, und dachte, ein paar Dateien in /boot wären Ballast. Der Rechner startete danach nicht mehr, und ich saß vor einem schwarzen Bildschirm ohne Plan B.
Was mir damals geholfen hat, war die Gemeinschaft. In einem Forum hat sich jemand die Zeit genommen, mir ruhig zu erklären, was ein Bootloader macht und wie ich das System von einem Live USB wieder zum Laufen bringe. Ich habe eine Nacht dran gesessen und dabei mehr gelernt als in den Wochen davor.
Heute weiß ich, dass genau das Linux für mich ausmacht. Fehler sind kein Weltuntergang, weil es fast immer einen Weg zurück gibt und jemanden, der ihn kennt. Aus meinem schlimmsten Moment wurde so einer der besten.

My journey going fulltime #linux continues. I noted wanting to move from my first choice (#pikaos) and give #steamos a try on my main desktop (this move also involved ditching the small win11 partition I held onto since buying the hardware). This did take place since that post... and I spent some time playing around with it... but I quickly ran into some choices made for Steam OS that didn't sit right with me as a desktop environment. So I went exploring further. Wanting to stick to #archlinux (as something to explore as I've dabbled mostly with Debian based distros), I decided to give #CachyOS a go. Thus far its snappy and seems to be smart with its makeup. Let's see how this one goes!

I believe that this is ife and there's nowt after it so might as well get on with everyone and the big roundie under my feet.

Ok, der ältere (Bj 2018, i5 8000er, GF1060) der beiden Daddel-Laptops war sowieso mal wieder fällig zum Plattmachen.
#bazzite zickte leider, ist also #cachyOS geworden, Hauptsache noch OOTB support für die Grafikkarte.
Wieder ein Rechner weniger mit Windows, bleibt nur noch der 2. Laptop; der kommt vielleicht nach den Versuchen zu VR unter #linux
Grew tired of the compounding issues on my Pop!Os (mainly caused by it being based on an outdated Ubuntu) so I gave #cachyOS a try. Very impressed with the installer and always liked #arch in general. Some rough edges, mostly in the form of missing dependencies (waybar lacks icon fonts, sway lacks swaybg) but that's all solvable. What continues to piss me off though is how shitty complicated it is to consistently set up dark mode. Someone solve this pls.

So, uh… I opened #Shelly on #CachyOS to install another browser and the first three recommendations are *all* AI tools.
Not sure how to feel about this. No clue how it's determined with Shelly anyway, but given it's probably based on some statistic (it keeps being like this after restarting Shelly or reloading the repo) it still rubs me the wrong way.

Windows 10 ist tot, Windows 11 sortiert funktionsfähige Rechner aus, und Microsoft drückt Nutzer*innen immer tiefer in Konto-Zwang, Telemetrie und KI-Funktionen. Zeit, Linux nicht mehr als Nerd-Spielzeug zu behandeln, sondern als das, was es ist: der saubere Ausweg. Reden wir drüber!

#batocera is offering a lot of stuff for #gamers. #cachyos is not. The goals of the distros are quite different. Cachy OS runs very well on my Lenovo Laptop.
What I haven't managed to work yet is Nvidia GeForce Now. Steam is up and running ...
