Well, I'm claiming it – hints of a purple aurora borealis in the skies north of Heidelberg this evening, at latitude 49.4ºN between ~20:20 & 20:50 CEST 🙂 👍 It was a strong geomagnetic event, caused by a coronal mass ejection a few days ago, so hopefully people further north will have captured much more. And there could be more to come tonight – keep an eye on the skies / aurora alert apps. #NorthernLights#Aurora #AuroraBorealis#Photography#Heidelberg

I notice many people are receiving their #JollaPhone! I tried to note down some of the things I did to get cosy with my new #SailfishOS device in a new blog post: "I have my Jolla Phone, what now?" https://www.rubdos.be/2026/08/01/my-sailfish-os-journey-what-they-should-ve-told-you.html#jolla #linuxonmobile #gettingstarted #harbour #android #microg #aurora

My Sailfish OS Journey: I have my Jolla Phone, what now?

(I started writing this article on July 9, during my flight back from Helsinki)

Aurora during a total solar eclipse? Áróra Another night, another good forecast for aurora but not for weather. By 7pm we were parked in a safe place and armed with tripods and cameras, warm clothes, and our books to read, waiting to see what transpired. It was quiet until about 9pm when three things happened. The clouds began to break up, the aurora began to dance, and we quickly unloaded the cameras! Early November, Berufjörður in eastern Iceland. #AuroraTuesday #NorthernLights #aurora #AuroraBorealis #Iceland #Photography

Zenith: Nightscapes winner This aurora was a once-in-a-lifetime event so the photographer knew to go somewhere special, trudging through the bush to the beach as the southern lights danced above. ‘This photo is one of the 6,000 plus I took but it highlighted an extreme amount of activity although it still remains difficult to grasp the scale of how large it was.’ Photograph: Brighton Seeley #astrophotography#Aurora#AltText

Nitrogen Fringe Green is the most common colour seen during auroral displays. It's produced when charged solar particles collide with oxygen molecules at altitudes of 100 to 300 km. Sometimes the lower edge of an aurora will have a pink tinge, which is produced by ionised nitrogen at altitudes below 100 km. On this November night, we saw it during an intense KP7 geomagnetic storm. Berufjörður in eastern Iceland. #AuroraTuesday #NorthernLights #aurora #AuroraBorealis #Iceland #Photography
