A bit of a haul, in two parts, plus a wild creature and #3goodthings. #movies #dvds #blu-rays #film

  1. The haul.
  2. I can't say that how my dad's doing is a good thing but he's alive.
  3. Two movies picked out for tonight, one of which is from today's group. Trouble bound (1993), directed by Jeffrey Reiner, starring Patricia Arquette, Billy Bob Thornton, Michael Madsen, and Sal Jenko. I'll come back when this is uploaded and tell you the second one. Stay tuned.

#3goodthings

  1. I baked a cake.

  2. I took a walk with my friend. Gave her a piece of cake and a piece or two of squash.

  3. Two movies tonight. Rom-com throwbacks.

First up, St. Elmo's Fire (1985), directed by Joel Schumacher, starring Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, Andie MacDowell and Mare Winningham. I've seen this one a few times over the years.

Second, Strictly Ballroom (1992), directed by Baz Luhrmann, starring Paul Mercurio, Tara Morice, Bill Hunter, Pat Thomson, Gia Carides, Peter Whitford, and Barry Otto. Haven't seen this one.

About to embark on a consolidation project to create a One Film Per Week decade long film review archive section on my website. It’ll bring together all of the films I have seen since January 2015. Over 400 films. On one fast loading tabbed page using Elementor WordPress widgets. Each film will have the film poster, my rating, what I wrote on social media about them, and a link to IMDb. #Film

  2. First film tonight, Pretty Village, Pretty Flame (1996), a 1996 Serbian film directed by Srđan Dragojević, about the Bosnian war.

  1. 2nd film tonight, Bird (1988), directed by Clint Eastwood, starring Forest Whittaker and Diane Venora. It's another jazz movie.

And some not so good things today, headed up by the death of Sir Patrick Stewart at 86. Sad to see him go. But we too will become one with the Borg.

  1. Made a couple jars of salsa.

  2. Watching a couple films. See below.

  3. Dad still has a will to live, despite an amputation set for tomorrow.

First up, Catch .44 (2011), directed by Aaron Harvey, starring Forest Whitaker, Bruce Willis, Malin Åkerman, Nikki Reed, Deborah Ann Woll, and Brad Dourif. It's a crime thriller.

Second up, 'Round Midnight (1986), directed by Bertrand Tavernier, starring Dexter Gordon, François Cluzet, Sandra Reaves-Phillips, Lonette McKee, Christine Pascal, Herbie Hancock, John Berry, and Martin Scorsese. It's a musical drama, a drama about musicians, with great music.

A little bit of an #introduction: I write personal essays at the intersection of film, philosophy, and everyday life. I’m creating a site of interconnected notes: a living space where drafts, rabbit holes, and ideas can bounce off each other and evolve in public. 🔗 https://enjambments.com #WritingCommunity #DigitalGarden #Essays #Film #Philosophy #PKM

RE: https://helvede.net/@jwcph/117417976870092082 Well, technically I can re-confirm - this afternoon was the US version but I also saw the Danish version a few years ago. They are equally janky, but the US one still manages to distinguish itself by adding some optical effects for the monster spewing toxic slime & eating people that wouldn't look out of place in a Monty Python sketch 😂 Seriously, though, that monster... hard to believe that Sid Pink apparently gushed over Danish model makers 😱 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reptilicus#film #kaiju

Can confirm that "Reptilicus" (1961) is THE so-bad-it's-good movie 😱😂 The plot simply jumps from one monster cliché to the next with no attempt at actually connecting events at all, the monster & miniatures are grade school quality & almost constantly out of focus, and the acting turns "wooden" into a glowing compliment 🤣 Also, it features not one, not two, but THREE fan service women with nothing to do beyond "look pretty, fight over the male lead & be leered at by everyone else". #film
