I've had an email from Octopus Energy telling me that because of dramatic falls in wholesale electricity prices, they sadly have no choice but to reluctantly reduce the price they are paying me for the electricity I export from my solar panels. Weirdly, they seem very much to have the choice not to reduce the price of the electricity that they sell to me. Isn't it funny how that works? #Electricity #Octopus #OctopusEnergy #PowerCompanies

[ #Trump just doesn’t get it. I doubt he even knows that #DataCenters are causing #electricity bills to skyrocket for consumers. ] “The only reason that communities throughout the U.S.A. should not want Data Centers is if they want to end up being backwards and poor,” Trump posted on his Truth Social site. “If they want to be successful & rich, with far lower taxes & jobs all over the place, let Data Reign.” #idiocracy #law #policy #regulation #tech #energy #CostOfLiving #ClimateChange #vote

#US Is Pulling Back on #EnergyEfficiency Just as Prices Are Rising Trump admin is undoing fuel-saving efforts even as war in Iran, data centers and heat waves are pushing up #gasoline and #electricity costs Consumers end up using more electricity and burning more gas when electricity costs are rising faster than inflation and gasoline is $4. While more efficient cars or appliances can be more expensive, often save money because they use less energy https://www.nytimes.com/2026/07/21/climate/trump-energy-efficiency-standards.html https://archive.ph/BVzTr

power usage is much less intuitive than you'd think. a 1000w (2kw usage) microwave running for two 30 second runs to heat up food twice a day, could be fed with a single tiny 3-cell 33Wh powerbank (3x 3000mAh * 4v 18650 = 36Wh) whereas the basic ~100w always active ventilation of the average (european) house/toilets will accumulate 2-3000Wh a day, about 5-7 big ebike batteries worth with each 36 cells (36* 3000mAh * 4v = 432Wh) #PowerUsage #Electricity

“When you compare that to the hundreds of millions of people who are struggling with rolling #blackouts, with #electricity curbs, #rationing, waiting in line for #food queues, or the disruption to #fertilizers & the potential impact that that has on food #prices, we don’t think that it’s a justifiable price for the rest of the world to be paying,” Galey added. #BigOil #WarProfiteering #FossilFuels #ClimateChange #TrumpsWar #IranWar #US #Iran #Trump #economy #inflation #affordability #oil #energy

Before #2022, the engineers at #Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZPNN) — the largest in #europe — weren't revving up for an #invasion . They knew what to do without #electricity and were prepped for natural #disasters but a full-on occupation of their plant? Not something they’d prepared for.
