→ One year later & this has not happened. MEP, Andreas Schwab has said, "One year on, those conflicts of interest remain.” The European Commission must not give Google more time to extend its market power. (And profit off your data) Take action, sign the petition: break up Big Tech & break the monopoly 👉 https://action.wemove.eu/sign/2025-05-breakupbigtech-petition-EN/?utm_campaign=BreakUpBigTech&utm_medium=li&utm_source=orgli#DeGoogle

So apparently the Maps app that Murena ships with /e/OS isn't acutally a fork of Magic Earth with nothing changed as I suspected before. In reality, it's just an installation of Magic Earth where they've gone in and created an icon overlay to make it look like their own. And you can apparently also remove that mapoverlay with adb to make the icon return back to normal. I find it to be one thing to just repackage programs like Etar Calendar and ship as your own. But to not even bother to repackage and instead create a foundation.e.mapsoverlay feels a little bit scummy, or? (for full transparency, I have not dug into murena repos to see if foundation.e.mapsoverlay does anything more, but this is the immediate difference I saw on my screen when I removed it during my debloating process) #degoogle #android #customrom #murena #eos

I have performed the deliberately slow and difficult procedure and I'm ready for FDroid 2.0 on my daily driver. On a 2nd phone, I've had GrapheneOS going for several months, and I've tested my critical apps over there, obtained via Fdroid and Aurora app store that front-ends play store. A few commercial apps, like Costco and Canadian Tire app didn't work well the last time I tried, but I can just use a browser instead. I am ready. #degoogle

I don't get what is going on on my degoogled phone. Aurora app has again stopped applying updates. Is this some kind of rate limiting? I'm going to hope it resolves itself again. I can see this is a common issue but what causes it for some seems unclear. #DeGoogle

I was on the phone with a friend this evening and we were both grousing about Google. She already uses a different search engine (as do I) but then I told her about Open Street Map. She didn't know about it before - she was so excited! 😁 https://www.openstreetmap.org #DeGoogle #OpenStreetMap
