This Weird 1973 Typeface Just Came Back From the Dead

A wonderfully weird typeface from 1973 has come back to life — and somehow it looks more at home in 2026 than ever. Meet Clippy, the retro font that bends, rocks and wobbles its way into the digital age.

Evolving AI in my creative process and academic journey has been a continuous cycle of change. I remember starting off with Lensa creating otherworldly portraits of myself, then being in an academic world that emphasized ethics in AI, while still trying to use it for writing and research, then moving into a place now where I sometimes feel like it’s trying to gaslight me! I last talked publicly about this topic on a panel at the Vancouver Convention Centre a few years ago. Glad to have my brain picked on the topic! #DesignEducation #DesignConference #typography

The Darkside Release date: 1987-06-01 A cab driver gets mixed up with a fare he picks up who turns out to be a porno star, and she claims she has proof that the people she is working for are producing snuff films. Her claims seem to be validated when the cabbie notices suspicious looking people following them. https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/163514 #film #films #movie #movies #poster #posters #history #design #typography #horror #horrormovies

I designed the typefaces to suggest the meaning of the words. “Parliament” is in a gothic script. “Owls” has an owl eye for ‘o’ and the remaining letters are feathered. The owls are, right to left and top to bottom: the Eastern screech, Northern saw-whet, long-eared, Barred, Great Horned and the American Barn owls. https://minouette.etsy.com/listing/4337673774 🧵2/2 #linocut #printmaking #sciart #owls #typography #termsOfVenery #screechOwl #GreatHornedOwl #BarnOwl #InternationalOwlAwarenessDay

Three people did visible work this week and every one of them did the same unglamorous thing. Somebody counted something. Alex Bollinger counted the fabricated videos — a month of watching AI watermarks show up, then get cropped off. Rachel Maddow counted the illnesses: 6,700 cyclospora cases across 45 states, laid beside the surveillance program they killed. Sarah McBride counted the dollars, and declined to fund a war with no stated end. None of it is glamorous. All of it is the work. You cannot protect what you haven't bothered to number. Who's doing the counting in your town?
