“When #PatrickStewart was growing up in the 1940s, he witnessed how, after his father beat his mother, home doctors and ambulance workers would tell her: “You must have done something to provoke him.” Stewart knew the violence was never warranted, a conviction that became the spark for a lasting commitment to campaigning for greater understanding of domestic abuse.” 👆 Commanding stage presence, great actor; For me though, it’s the leadership shown on #DV that elevates Patrick beyond other actors and celebs. Using visibility and position of power. 🖖

I didn’t know until today that #PatrickStewart was an outspoken advocate against #ViolenceAgainstWomen (for his mom) and also for supports for veterans (for his dad). But it fits. The blog below has a couple nice videos of him speaking about it. It feels nice to have that common activism with him. I’ll make this my last post on him. Men, we have the power in our hands to stop violence against women and children. https://losingmyperspicacity.beehiiv.com/p/why-losing-patrick-stewart-hits-so-hard-for-women #RIP #StarTrek #Picard #BelieveWomen #MeToo

when we remember #PatrickStewart we should also remember that he was a victim of #DomesticViolence. his father hit his mother and stewart openly talked about what experiencing this horror on a nearly weekly basis did to him, his brother, and obviously his beloved mother. he not only talked about it but advocated for men in particular to stand up against #DomesticAbuse. many years ago he became part of a campaign called “ring the bell“ to educate about the importance of bystander intervention.

Picard: I can't live out my days as that person. That man is bereft of passion & imagination! That is not who I am! Q: Au contraire. He's the person you wanted to be, one who was less arrogant & undisciplined in his youth. That Picard never had a brush with death, never came face to face with his own mortality, never realized how fragile life is or how important each moment must be. Picard: I would rather die as the man I was... than live the life I just saw. #PatrickStewart #StarTrek
