#metoo

I was listening to Times Radio this afternoon and heard an interview with Rosamund Urwin in which she detailed what #RussellBrand ‘s barrister, Ian Winter had said to her immediately after the trial concluded, but also how his interrogation of the victims was pre #MeToo in terms of its tone that made it sound more like they were in the dock than Brand. It really showed how hard it is even in 2026 to hold men of privilege to account. There is still much to be done.

I didn’t know until today that #PatrickStewart was an outspoken advocate against #ViolenceAgainstWomen (for his mom) and also for supports for veterans (for his dad). But it fits. The blog below has a couple nice videos of him speaking about it. It feels nice to have that common activism with him. I’ll make this my last post on him. Men, we have the power in our hands to stop violence against women and children. https://losingmyperspicacity.beehiiv.com/p/why-losing-patrick-stewart-hits-so-hard-for-women #RIP #StarTrek #Picard #BelieveWomen #MeToo

I believed in the general principles already but in a superficial way. Then I realised I was trans just as #metoo was happening and learning what it’s like to be a woman while everyone was talking about what it’s like to be a woman made me see how much of it I had been blind to.

#HarveyWeinstein, the disgraced movie mogul, was sentenced in NYC to 15 years in prison Wednesday for a felony #SexCrime in another #MeToo reckoning. Weinstein’s sentencing for sexually assaulting one-time TV PA Miriam Haley followed a legal odyssey spanning >6 yrs. His 2020 conviction was overturned by NY’s highest court, citing testimony from other women whose allegations weren’t part of the case. A 2nd jury found Weinstein #guilty again at a retrial last year. #law

@JessTheUnstill@infosec.exchange That reminds me of conversations back in the #MeToo days, so 2018-ish? Some people and even some journos got antsy about how to properly dis someone without being sexist, so they can't call them a 'prick' or a 'cunt' or whatever. The solution was reasonable, IMO. If 'whomever' has pissed you off they are an 'arsehole'. Because absolutely everyone has one of those.

You see this a lot in the gendered oppression that led to the #MeToo movement, or the negative vs. positive peace framework of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. A group of people that only values the superficial experience of steady peacefulness will often end up turning against the victims of unfair treatment, because the original unfair treatment could happen quietly within the superficial peace, but the conflict intrinsic to addressing the problem _can't_ fit in the superficial peace. So whoever breaks the illusion is the bad guy that the group turns on. There's a reason so many petty tyrants love this model, and the way everyone else gets quiet to appease them, the burden of peace always on their own shoulders instead of the tyrant's. My marriage was like that! I don't miss it!

sometimes, when it's quiet, I think about the fact that the whole anti-trans movement is really just a reaction to the #MeToo movement and how close it came to holding powerful men accountable for their degeneracy
