Wow crazy. So I had a drive die in my NAS. Not to bad been spinning since May 2019. Replacement 8 TB - WD Red drive $around $375 - $450 depending on vendor. Crazy thing last November got one for $195. Crazy stupid inflation!! I had a drive and it has been swapped. It's rebuilding the RAID volume now. #nas #wd #homelab

i've been windowshopping #NAS enclosures recently. i think 2027 is going to be the year i build a NAS thing. the 'AOOSTAR WTR MAX 8845 11 Bay NAS' looks like a reeeeeally interesting option. also i'd probably move my homelab into it. wondering if anyone else has been on a NAS journey lately.

Does anyone know of a powerful NAS, ideally one thats upgradable that I can install my own OS onto? Id love a HP MIcroserver Gen 10 v2 Plus, but it sounds like theyre pretty loud? I have a Thinkcentre M720q, which is awesome, but figuring out how to power JBOD reliably and safely, and how to get 4 SATA connections out of it is a bit beyond me. I need CPU oomph because I'll be doing more than just NAS stuff. #NAS #Server #sysadmin #homeLab #linux

𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗩𝗮𝘂𝗹𝘁: #NAS #Linux #OpenMediaVault https://thewhale.cc/posts/openmediavault OpenMediaVault (OMV) is a free Linux distribution based on Debian designed for network-attached storage (NAS). It contains services like SSH, (S)FTP, SMB/CIFS, DAAP media server, RSync, BitTorrent client and many more. Thanks to the modular design of the framework it can be enhanced via plugins.

@MostlyHarmless@thecanadian.social lol I have been running #nextcloud at home since forever. Currently on an #Asustor #nas that runs continuously on an average of 15W. On a 0.25 euro energy plan, that's about €30/year. Including HW cost spread over 6 years, its about €50/year. So much for that hyperscaling advantage. If you're paying $150(+)/year to #apple for that service, you're getting ripped off. And that's the start of it

Fed up with unreliably enumerating devices on consumer/office grade platforms. I'm building a new #NAS for my #HomeLab. Ryzen 3 3100, Zen2 4c8t. Great multi-core perf boost, compared to my i5-7500. I get ECC capability, and an amazing upgrade path. I'll use one of those weird ASRock Rack B565D4-V1L ODM/OEM mobos, for 50 € on eBay. The x16 slot supports 4x4 bifurcation; ASRock Rack RB4M2 holds my NVMes. I'll keep the old 4x8 GB DDR4-2400 RAM, of course i will. 😅

«Das beste Datei-Sharing auf dem NAS: Opencloud, Resilio, Nextcloud, Syncthing und mehr» — auf @ct_uplink Das Thema ist (für mich) nicht neu, nun aber wird es endlich populär. Denn langsam aber immer mehr sehen US-Konzerne unter Kritik. Vor nicht all zu langer Zeit wurde ich noch gerne als "Nerd-Spinner" angesehen da ich nicht der Masse hinterher "torkelte". 📺 https://peertube.heise.de/w/uQRygtbsgtWMRFhCsbtyyB #opencloud #resilio #nextcloud #cloud #syncthing #opensource #peertube #nas #video #dateisharing #filesharing
