The engineering of starvation is not merely hunger brought about by war; it is a pattern of systematic deprivation in which the essentials of life — food, water, and medicine — become tools of pressure. From restricting the entry of humanitarian aid to destroying the foundations of local food production, including farmland, bakeries, and water sources, the food crisis continues to deepen, depriving people of their most basic right: the right to survive. Today, Gaza faces a new wave of hunger amid UN warnings about the risk of famine and malnutrition. While browsing through my old photos, this one caught my attention: a cup of coffee and a little peace and quiet that now seem further away than I can reach. I’m a coffee lover, and spending long hours in front of the computer has made me depend on it as a stimulant to keep me awake, almost like a little ritual that helps me regain some energy amid life’s many demands. Can you imagine that I now miss even drinking that cup of coffee? I miss those ordinary moments I never thought would one day become memories I would long for. Our problems seemed so big back then that we believed they were the end of the world. In the midst of our disagreements, we forgot that there were so many things to be grateful for, and that the peace and quiet we sometimes grow tired of may one day become the very things we wish for most. Today, as I look at this photograph, I find myself wondering: Were our problems really that serious? Or did we make them bigger than they were because we had no idea what life would look like when it took away things we could never get back? Sometimes, we need to step away from the noise of our days to realize that what we once saw as the end of the world was nothing more than a small obstacle along the way.
