Why are so many dead bumblebees appearing on sidewalks?

Bumblebees naturally have short lives, but extreme heat and human activity are making survival harder. Pesticides can poison bees or destroy the flowers they depend on, while habitat loss leaves them with fewer safe places to live and feed. Protecting native plants and using fewer chemicals could help these vital pollinators recover.

Possibly a frigid bumblebee? Seen on the south shore of montreal. The weather was super hazy and lighting was dim, and I couldn't get a better photo. I'm hoping this critter will stick around my goldenrod patch so I can get a better photo on another day. #bumblebee

A bumblebee hovers in front of a bright red balcony flower, reaching deep into the bloom for nectar. A quiet moment full of movement, captured in the warm light of a summer day. For the past month or more I'd been concerned at a significant decline in #bumblebee sightings here southwest of Ottawa. A slight increase the last few days then this morning, the wild bergamot and (non native) blue weed are humming with them!
