#ao3

ArchiveOfOurOwn (AKA AO3, run by the Organization for Transformative Works (OTW)) has been down for a few days due to a security incident. In the wake of that security incident, a site called AO3.life has cropped up. At some point, they scraped what appears to be most (if not all ... I've got no way to check that myself) of the fics on AO3 including ones that were only available to logged-in users. In addition to providing these fics (some of which were specifically not intended for broader consumption) on their site, they're trying to get readers to pay for audio editions of the stories. They have some dodgy and technically impossible steps if you are an AO3 author and want to take your fics down. OTW is aware and is taking legal action but they warn that the legal system is slow. They advise that you do not attempt to use AO3.life's requested method since it may expose you to additional dangers regarding your private information. #ao3

The Internet’s emotional support smut is offline: We estimate that service restoration for #AO3 will take around 2 weeks but it could be up to 4 weeks. We are hopeful that we will be able to bring the site back up in a degraded state sooner. If that does happen, there may be times when the site has to be brought down temporarily until this is fully resolved. Please stay tuned for further info.

#PennedPossibilities 963 — If you use a pen name or certain username on a writing site, what is its significance and how did you arrive at using it? Credit: @NaraMoore@sakurajima.moe My username, pen name, or the nom-de-plume I use online is agoodtuckering. “A good Tuckering” has to do with Malcolm Tucker and is in reference to his furious rants. He’s a character that I love writing and have actually written stories for for a long time now. I’m a big Peter Capaldi fan. The username stuck, and I use it for my Tumblr and Archive of Our Own accounts. That’s what everyone knows me by these days, that and floofpaldi as well over on Discord, Fluxer, and here on Mastodon. Again, like I said, Capaldi fan here. It just fit for the communities I was and am in. It means floofy-haired (or fluffy-haired) Capaldi. I thought it was cute, to be fair. #WritingCommunity #WritersOfMastodon #PeterCapaldi #TheThickOfIt #ArchiveOfOurOwn #AO3 #Tumblr
