Air quality continues to improve across Europe, with emissions from most of the major pollutants declining by significant amounts. “The overall picture remains positive,” according to the annual Assessment Report on European Air Quality 2025, released by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service (CAMS), an EU program that has monitored changing air pollution levels for over […] The post Europe’s Air Quality Dramatically Improves in 10 Years, With 39-59% Drop in Industrial and Road Toxins appeared first on Good News Network.

Dear people of the fediverse... In recent years I've noticed an increase in the number of people who will sit in their cars with the engine idling whilst looking at their phone. Has anyone done any research into this i.e. quantified the additional CO2 and other emissions resulting from this change in behaviour? Or perhaps it is just my imagination that this is happening more often (for context, I am in the UK). #climate #environment #air #pollution

#AirQuality readings of 100 or higher are a warning to people who have #respiratory conditions to take precautions. Above 150, the air is considered “unhealthy” for people who are not in sensitive groups. Above 200, the air is “very unhealthy.” Above 300, the air is “hazardous.” #wildfires #PublicHealth #pollution #air #ExtremeWeather #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis

The scale, which runs from 0 to 500, was designed by the #EPA & measures the density of five different #pollutants in the #air: ground-level #ozone, #particulates, #CarbonMonoxide, #NitrogenDioxide & #SulfurDioxide. Several spots in northeastern Minnesota, closest to the fires recorded had AQI readings well into the “hazardous” range on Wednesday. #wildfires #PublicHealth #AirQuality #pollution #air #ExtremeWeather #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis

The #smoke is spreading so widely because the same #HeatDome that has led to brutally high temperatures in the #Midwest & the #Northeast has trapped the smoke close to the ground. By the weekend, as another weather system pushes the hottest #air away, the #heat & the smoke are expected to ease in the Northeast, forecasters said. But closer to the #wildfires, the smoke is likely to linger longer. #PublicHealth #pollution #ExtremeWeather #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis

#Trump #Fireworks likely to cause hazardous #air #pollution, documents show Internal #NPS modeling for the July 4th show predicts dangerous pollution around the #NationalMall & “very unhealthy” conditions across central DC. The show, billed by the #Trump admin as the largest pyrotechnic display in history, will include some 850k fireworks in a roughly 40-min show….Trump will speak as part of the event…. #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #law #EnvironmentalLaw #PublicHealth
