Hello Mastodon! 👋 I'm Gaby, and Slugs on the Refrigerator is my little corner of the internet: a UK crochet blog full of patterns, step-by-step tutorials and Crochet Camp lessons (plus the odd bit of DIY, party planning and farm life). If you're just starting out, the humble hexagon is a lovely first project. Here's my photo-by-photo guide to crocheting a basic hexagon: https://www.slugsontherefrigerator.com/blog/how-to-basic-hexagon/ #crochet #crochetpattern #yarn #crochettutorial #introduction

@weaving@fedigroups.social @fiberarts@fedigroups.social De-stash project I’ve been trying to use old yarn in every project this year, but the warp on this is all 17+ years old. The rose, pale pink and white are originally from a baby blanket whose owner is now a senior in high school. The red is from several baby blankets. Those kids are all mid 20s. The brown I got used in 1997, so who knows how old that is. This is a run of waffle weave towels. #weaving #FiberArts #textiles #yarn #craft #destash

Quick #yarn question: According to J&S, one of these is “blue” and the other is “sky blue.” Which is which in your opinion? I think they’ve got it the wrong way round, and so does my wife 😅 Their opinion is in the alt text. As a bonus: my #finishorfrogalong #knitting jumper is going well! I just finished round 17 of 29 of the yoke pattern, I’m hoping to finish the whole thing by next weekend. Wish me luck!

@weaving@fedigroups.social @fiberarts@fedigroups.social Fresh off the loom: doublewidth throws in integrated plain weave. Still have to fringe, wet finish and brush. Since they are so big, I think I will step on them in the tub to full them. This is a destash project—which, of course, means I had to buy more yarn to actually do it. 😂 Those stripes are gifted yarns I have had for a couple of decades! If you don’t see me for a while, I’ll be fringing! 😅 #weaving #FiberArts #Yarn #Wool #craft #handmade

RE: https://sunny.garden/@Paws2Spindle/116961470705350878 Question for fiber folks about moths: Last night, I forgot I had these skeins out drying until after dark. When I went to bring them in, a moth flew up from one of the skeins. These are a blend of wool and dog fur. Should I be worried that the moth might have laid eggs in the yarn? Should I throw them in the freezer or do something more drastic? I'm keeping them well separate from the rest of my stash for now. #Yarn #FiberArts #HandSpinning

#TourDeFleece Stage 16 Gave the Tibetan Mastiff/merino blends a wash in doggy shampoo. Forgot to give them a thwack! I usually don't with fur, but wonder if it might be good to do with the blends. Tonight's heritage blend: 50g of Manx Loaghtan top, a breed from the Isle of Man that almost went extinct. According to Fleece & Fiber, originally, brown was a rare color, but was selected for during its recovery and is the predominant color now. It's mostly a meat breed, but has a soft fleece (which I can confirm! It was light and soft!), "a relatively soft fiber with an exceptional amount of bounce, a quality that can be maximized through woolen-style preparation and spinning." I enjoyed spinning it woolen long-draw style. My camera doesn't quite capture the sandy/mousy brown correctly. I can see why F&F concludes, "Unusual color and softness. Should be better known than it is, because of its resilience and all-around appealing character." #TourDeFleece2026 #HandSpinning #FiberArts
