"We learned from past lessons and did not resort to the belt-tightening measures that increased unemployment and reduced income during the 2008 financial crisis. Instead, we put in place a social safety net, with furlough programs that supported nearly 3.4 million workers at their peak, and public credit lines that bridged the liquidity needs of over 674,000 mostly small- and medium-sized firms." https://www.imf.org/en/publications/fandd/issues/2025/06/spains-shift-to-success-carlos-cuerpo Finland’s far-right government runs down the welfare state https://feps-europe.eu/finlands-far-right-government-runs-down-the-welfare-state/ Argentina loses 33 companies a day under Javier Milei https://www.dw.com/en/argentina-loses-33-companies-a-day-under-javier-milei/video-79357633 #Spain #Argentina #Finland #environment #society #welfare #politics #election #elections #EUpol #BRpol #USpol #ARpol #FarRight

‘THINGS like welfare, to be quite honest, they are unimportant when you lose a war and you have Russian Chechen stormtroopers coming down the street raping women and killing people.”

RE: https://flipboard.com/@gothamist/gothamist-igeoft02z/-/a-SSw6eJEgS4-jDxtlgYR_pQ%3Aa%3A3807498986-%2F0 this fucking headline: they weren't voting against extending food stamp coverage of rotisserie chickens. they had proposals to EXTEND COVERAGE TO ALL HOT, SUPERMARKET PREPARED MEALS dafuckouttahere #nyc #foodStamps #welfare #USpol UPDATE: the headline is misleading. the 3 from ny wanted to cover ALL HOT FOODS, to include vegetarians. THE MEASURE PASSED. am assuming their NO gives them leverage for introducing an amendment to expand benefits. if not, NY WILL HAVE TO SUE.

RE: https://mastodon.social/@nixCraft/116380044468638699 Microsoft Office is one of the largest #welfare programs in the world. it diverts REAL billions of dollars from the public coffers of governments, into the pockets of Bill Gates and his #EpsteinClass cronies. Brasil pays for basic universal health care and UBI for kids because it said NO to Microsoft in 2005 & moved to #linux & #LibreOffice. thanks to Trump, #Microsoft finally lost the 2nd largest economy in the European Union and the 7th largest in the world. merci a la France.

"From London to Lisbon, politicians from centre-right and centre-left parties alike had steadily eroded social programmes, fostering a sense of scarcity and creating fertile ground for the stirring up of anti-migrant sentiment." “If we were doing more, people would not feel threatened. They would be reassured that the digital and ecological transitions and globalisation will be painless because they are protected by a state that cares for them.” #UKPol #EUPol #Welfare
