Some of my Mammillaria are in flower today. I've pollenated the M. laui (the small one I'm holding) with M. hahniana (the round hairy one) and visa versa tho neither have much pollen so I'm not expecting much. The flowers are so cute, futher in the season they will have enough that they will form rings around the cactus like flower crowns! Adorable :) #Cactus #BloomScrolling

In a surprise upset, the Mammillaria pulled ahead and opened its flower before the Gymnocalycium! #Bloomscrolling #Cactus

Apparently there is some related species or similar cactus where the flowers are made into a soup. My grandmother apparently made that, but, my mother, having been taught zero "domestic" skills as a child, did not know anything about it.... All I remember, is it was apparently special because the flower only blossomed once a year, and at night (like the pitahaya) #cactus

It wasn’t until I got home that I noticed a hitchhiker on my shoelaces. I must have picked it up in the wildflower meadow this morning. I’m going to try rooting and growing it. 🌵👟 #BikeTooter #plants #cactus #Colorado

Hello #cactus lovers of fediverse! I’ve had this cactus for maybe 30 years? It’s actually been with my parents for at least two decades, but it’s still kind of my beleaguered cactus. I know you can cut the cactus and harden it off, then replant it. Do you have any guides that you like on how best to do this? I’m kind of scared to cut it, but I know I need to do something. I found a post on Reddit, but I’m all ears if anyone has suggestions on where to cut it or guides they like.
