We are staying 4 days on the Isle of Skye and the thing with buses is both good and bad. Overall, I would say it works best when staying in Portree. The good: It costs only 2£ per trip. There's several lines and a number of very nice hikes are accessible by bus, in particular the old man of storr (as in the image), Rubha Hunish or the fairy pools. There's a line that just goes round the island in both directions, which in itself is great sightseeing. The bus drivers are extremely friendly and helpful. The bad: Buses don't run on sundays, except for the citylink to Inverness. And the nice circle line goes only every two hours. I got reminded of the Grödner valley in southern tirole, where in self defense of the locals, every tourist gets a bus ticket, paid for by an additional fee you pay at your accomodation. Having the circle line run every hour would make more people use it and help the locals, in particular the poor teenagers without a car. 22/n #Isleofskye #bus

One of the joys of Edinburgh for me is the public transport - you may laugh, as we have no metro, very few city trains and currently only half a tram line - but the buses are (1) frequent and well organised, (2) publicly owned, and (3) free! (If you’re lucky to be the right age). But what really impressed me recently was these stairs on a double decker bus. Normally the bus stairs are a dark dingy hole between decks, but these are so bright and cheery! Kudos to the designer. #3goodthings #bus

I was thinking on my blue line ride this morning that I don't want self driving cars, I want the community that #transit gives. I want conversations that start on the #bus or #train. And then right after I had that thought, someone sitting behind me started going on about... Well all sorts of stuff. The bus being slow, Minnesota's governor being corrupt with his mountain dew drinking, construction being evidence of fraud. So I guess I got part of my wish.
