Bluegrass virtuoso Billy Strings : Fresh Air

The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and guitarist has one foot in traditional bluegrass and another in improvisational jam music. He has a new album, So Much for Goodbyes, inspired by his late mother. He spoke with producer Sam Briger about healing himself through songwriting, performing the day his mom died, and how being a father has changed him as a musician. "I sing now from a place of freedom and joy in my belly," Strings says. He brought his guitar to the interview. Originally broadcast

Lightening fast finger picking tempered with the emotion of R & B, this guy was the bringer of the blues-rock and southern rock sound.

Ok, I found the coolest thing ever. ===Cyberpunk Bluegrass Music=== @coreysnipes@hachyderm.io suggested I look into Bluegrass in addition to my current studies of Irish Trad music as I learn how to play the Irish whistle. That makes sense as a lot of Bluegrass stems from old Irish music. In my search for Bluegrass music with Irish whistles, I stumbled across Justin Myles Holmes' "Barlow's Jig". And get this... after listening to an Irish whistle, a banjo, a fiddle, and other instruments playing a bluegrass jig... ...you hear a voiceover reading of "A Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace (1996)" written by none other than John Perry Barlow, founding member of the @eff@mastodon.social John Perry Barlow. Barlow's Jig. My worlds have collided. Heck, I'd argue that Folk Music + Calls for Digital Independence = Solarpunk !!! Give it a listen here (the voiceover starts at 2:45 but listen to the leadup as well): https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Ck8AZA11oYQ&list=OLAK5uy_n1BAK9bfUT9iwOo8yTRVfKeYI-St_9TME&index=11 (full URL just includes the song itself and a playlist for the album. No tracking parameters) #solarPunk #cyberPunk #folkMusic #tradMusic #bluegrass #tinWhistle
