Hi. You must get the Mastodon API post id either from a timeline or by using search on the real post id. The gory details: Mastodon-API-compatible ids are simulated in #snac by concatenating the object creation time (ctime) and the md5 of the real post id (see the function mastoapi_id() in mastoapi.c for more details). Hope it helps.

Snac is a lightweight Fediverse-compatible social network server which is entirely human-written, and doesn't require a database. You can find out more at: 🏡 https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2 You can follow Snac's lead developer at: 🏡 @grunfink It can be installed via @yunohost@toot.aquilenet.fr (at https://apps.yunohost.org/app/snac) or manually using the installation instructions (at https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2/src/branch/master/README.md) #SelfHosting #Fediverse #ActivityPub #Snac

You have these two articles by Stefano Marinelli (@stefano@mastodon.bsd.cafe) that may improve your #snac experience: Improving snac Performance with Nginx Proxy Cache (by Stefano Marinelli).Caching Snac Proxied Media With Nginx (by Stefano Marinelli).

I've just published version 2.97 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes: Quote-posting your own posts is now allowed (do it by adding RE: https://example.com/you/post-id in its own line in a post body). The Mastodon API can now be disabled by setting the mastodon_api directive to false in server.json (no need to compile it out). Fixed a crash in chunked transfer encoding code (special thanks to Sergey Bronnikov for bringing this to my attention). Tweak to JSON loading code to circunvent fmemopen() issues on Illumos / OpenIndiana systems (contributed by aleteoryx). Mastodon API: Fixed error in voting code (contributed by uilebheist), more aggressive old data purging. https://comam.es/what-is-snac If you find #snac useful, please consider buying grunfink a coffee or contributing via LiberaPay. #snacAnnounces #FrugalFediverse

@grunfink@comam.es hi grunfink, some rapid-fire #snac questions I've noticed from the snac(8) manpage that there's some support for Events in snac, and I've seen one post that had an "Event" tag attached to it. what's the current state of ActivityPub Events? are we able to create Events from snac?

Hi. #snac cannot create Events at this moment, but Event type objects like those generated by Gancio or Mobilizon are understood and its special data (location, start / end time, etc.) shown.

Big no to both. Some Fediverse implementations, like the one I develop (#snac), does not publish follower nor following counts by default.

I've just published version 2.96 of #snac, the simple, minimalistic #ActivityPub instance server written in C. It includes the following changes: Accounts can be marked as cool; anytime a cool account posts something, a notification will be sent. Fixed an issue in Direct Messages sent from the people page; these posts didn't explicitly mention the recipient, and that confused some implementations. Fixed crash when sending an empty EmojiReact. HTTP requests can now be forced to use IPv6 by setting the force_ipv6_requests configuration directive to true in server.json. Fixed a socket buffering issue under OpenIndiana (contributed by aleteoryx). Mastodon API: Added missing requested_by field in the relationships entrypoint (contributed by Uilebheist), implemented the followers entrypoint (contributed by Uilebheist), use Mastodon's RFC3339 format for markers (contributed by nowster), fixed posts with muted words not being filtered out, fixed editing of media alt texts. Tweaked HTML to avoid elinks complaining about a missing '#top' fragment. Fixed a bug that made deleting the notification email address impossible. RSS timelines are now cached because fuckers hammer for them continuously (probably AI crap bots). Added information to README.md on how to build and install on Illumos / OpenIndiana Hipster 2026.04 (contributed by aleteoryx). Updated Russian, Brazilian Portuguese and Czech translations (contributed by koru, daltux, pmjv). https://comam.es/what-is-snac If you find #snac useful, please consider buying grunfink a coffee or contributing via LiberaPay. #snacAnnounces #FrugalFediverse

@grunfink Is it possible to have my snac instance use TOR to federate *and* to have it available over clearweb at the same time? Would this mean that my instance pulls data from other instances using TOR, but other instances would only use the clearweb to pull data from me, so they could be blocked at the national level? #snac #snac2

@nowster That's a #snac bug. The marker should be returned as a Datetime, documented here: https://docs.joinmastodon.org/api/datetime-format/#datetime Based on the error message it looks like it's returning $milliseconds.$nanoseconds since the epoch. I've reported this as https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2/issues/659

I like Mastodon, I really do. But it has so, so many dependencies, and updating it on illumos or OpenBSD is getting really difficult, release after release. Some dependencies are primarily distributed as binaries, or only build on Linux and macOS. It's not Mastodon's fault, but it depends on them. That’s why, in my opinion, solutions like snac, GoToSocial, or littleFedi have a reason to exist: all of this is much, much easier... #Fediverse #snac #GoToSocial #littleFedi #OwnYourData #Mastodon

Can people "post" stuff to a person's INBOX if they don't have any relationship? (in ActivityPub) That might explain why I have a single instance snac server, and still get basically spam posts. I know I get something similar to that when there is like a secondary relationship thru someone i am following. But these things I see seemingly have no connecting relationships. #activitypub #snac2 #snac

Anyone can post anything to a person's inbox. However, #snac does a lot of checks to see if this post deserves to be here, e.g., if you are explicitly mentioned, if it's from someone you follow, if it's a reply to a conversation between people you follow, if it contains a hashtag you follow, etc. There are many more conditions. If none matches, the message is dropped with a log message similar to "post xxxx not for us". On the other, whenever a post from someone you follow gets in, snac tries to retrieve (following the inReplyTo fields chain) all the conversation up to the beginning to give you some context in the conversation. It may happen that, if that account you follow deletes their post, the replied post is left in your timeline, for no apparent reason.

Well, I started developing #snac in the Summer of 2022 (with previous experience) and I still find ActivityPub somewhat confusing 😉
