#Mahnmal #Kunstwerk #Stolperstein #OSM #OpenStreetMap

Lake Ontario ("Lake America")

Lake Ontario ("Lake America")

Here we go again… 😅 A few hours ago, US President Trump signed an Executive Order ordering GNIS to be updated to rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America”, and it seems the update has already taken effect (although to note, the GNIS entry cites “Executive Order 14420”, but that is in fact the executive order on “Delivering Gold Standard Childhood Vaccine Recommendations for Americans”; this new executive order has not been officially published in the Federal Register yet and thus does n...

Somebody brought this up amid the NVim saga: https://github.com/neovim/neovim/pull/12680 This reminded me of my own attempt to get the StreetComplete devs to do something similar which didn't really end well: https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetMeasure/pull/22#issuecomment-5163263620 Gee, let's enforce that against the nonexistent code of conduct: https://github.com/streetcomplete/StreetComplete/issues/7022 Sigh. Welp, I guess I'm not using that anytime soon... #osm #openstreetmap #foss #neovim #streetcomplete

If you're fed up with Google Maps for immediately capitulating to nonsense like this, I'd recommend trying out CoMaps or OsmAnd as general-purpose map/navigation apps. If you want to learn more about #OSM and how to contribute edits to the map, we've got a whole #StreetsMNPodcast episode you can check out!

Drat, OSM has blocked my server for (too much tile usage). All public safety alerts. Anyone have an OSM tile server they don't mind me hitting for images? I guess too many wildfire evacuations and tornado warning and whatnot all in the last week. (I do *not* want to have to set up a tile server myself). Temporarily switching to the USGS. https://m.ai6yr.org/@easwatch/117068169972870239 #disasters #publicsafety #software #gis #openstreetmaps #osm

#openstreetmap #osm #comaps #openstreetmaps

Don't forget! air_conditioning=yes/no is the tag you can map now!

When you walk into a shop/cafe/restaurant do you immediately notice the cold air? You should be happy for 2 reasons! You can cool down, and now you have something to map into OSM!

I also enjoyed this short talk about the strange hybrid language that we have to use to tag features in #OSM #OpenStreetMap

Cédric Despierre Corporon built a browser-based #FlightSimulator on the #ArcGIS Maps SDK for #JavaScript, streaming Swiss terrain and buildings from #swisstopo alongside global #OSM data. While obviously not a full flight sim, this is a genuinely impressive #WebGIS and #3D showcase you can fly yourself.
