Ten years of teaching GIS and remote sensing, and the hardest concept is still the same one: students learn buttons, not data models. Once someone truly gets what a raster is — a grid of measurements with a CRS stapled on — half of remote sensing follows on its own. Fellow geo educators: how do you teach the leap from software clicks to spatial thinking? #GIS #GISchat #RemoteSensing #Teaching #HigherEd

I moved to a new Mastodon Server (this one!). So, here's my new #Introduction post. I'm an assistant professor of #archaeology at #TXST in San Marcos, Texas. My research focuses on the use of various technologies (#3D, #GIS, #remotesensing) for historical archaeology. I'm also a big advocate for open source software! You can often find me working with #photogrammetry and 3D (https://sketchfab.com/edgonzaleztennant/models) creating tutorials (@ArchaeoSquatch@www.youtube.com), and using technology to explore and share how the past informs the present.

The environmental organisation I work for Trust for Nature is currently recruiting for a Senior GIS & Spatial Data Specialist. It’s a #melbourne based 0.8FTE role. The team is working on some interesting projects, you’d be working with some great people and the org is quite good about flexible working arrangements https://trustfornature.org.au/careers/senior-gis-spatial-data-specialist/ #GIS #spatialdata

Join the protest on Sunday 31st of May, 12 pm, outside the Herston Road entrance to the park. Bring you signs, your voices, your family, your music. That will be the last day GIICA will let us use these 32 hectares of green space, and sit under centuries-old gum trees animals call home before they cut them down. https://www.savevictoriapark.com/trees (edit: sorry, my map had the wrong area, missed a 0 in my division 😅. Fixed now.) 5/? #conservation #BNE #Meanjin #Magandjin #Brisbane #SEQ #GIS

Hello! Nitilo turns a file into a link anyone can open: fullscreen, in the browser, no account, no install. Drawings, building models, 3D parts, maps, databases, notebooks, slides. 154 formats, read on your own device; nothing is uploaded until you choose to share. The 70-second tour: https://youtu.be/irfURxZFHgc I'm Victor, I build it. Tell me which file you most often send to someone who can't open it. #introduction #BIM #CAD #GIS #WebApps

Send any file as a link anyone can open — Nitilo

☝️ What happens when you treat terrain morphometry like satellite bands? ⚙️ An experimental RGB composite of an industrial micro-catchment in Kryvyi Rih, synthesized directly from DEM hydro-conditioned derivatives: 🔹 Red: Channel Network Distance (hydraulic connectivity) 🔹 Green: Total Catchment Area / Flow Accumulation (upscale contributing mass) 🔹 Blue: LS-Factor / Slope Length-Steepness (RUSLE physical erosion capacity). ⚙️ The color mixing immediately separates the basin into physical domains: 🔹 Bright magenta/neon ribbons: Critical erosion and transport vectors where steep slope length converges with active channel flow. 🔹 Vibrant green zones: Planar accumulation sectors and potential geochemical sedimentation traps. 🔹 Dark interfluves: Geomorphologically stable plateau surfaces. #Geomorphometry #Hydrology #SpatialData #RStats #SAGAGIS #TerrainAnalysis #DEM #EnvironmentalGeology #GIS #DataVisualization #InhuletsRiver
