Last night, my husband took me to see "A Life Illuminated" about Dr. Edith Widder, the first marine biologist to document deep ocean #bioluminescence. To me, the #film served as a reminder to leave room in our minds for the beautiful, magical things that exist in this life that we don't often hear about or that remain unseen. Check and see if this #movie is coming to a theater near you. https://www.alifeilluminated.com/ #MarineBiology #science #OceanScience

The Trump administration is tearing up 900 deep-sea instruments that took a decade to install and $370 million to build — scrapping the world's most advanced ocean monitoring network to save $48m/year. Real-time data on AMOC stability, marine heat waves, ocean chemistry, commercial fisheries? Gone. Congress twice voted to save it. They did it anyway by bureaucratic fiat through the NSF. No, not budget management, this is deliberate science vandalism — blinding ourselves to the ocean systems that regulate global climate, because the results were inconvenient. #climatecrisis #trumpadministration #sciencedenialism #oceanscience #amoc

The Chambered Nautilus is one of the oldest surviving marine species on Earth, with a lineage that dates back more than 500 million years. Long before dinosaurs existed, these creatures were already drifting through ancient oceans, and remarkably, they have changed very little since then. Unlike octopuses or squids, the nautilus retains an external shell, divided into chambers that help control buoyancy. #Nautilus #DeepSea #MarineBiology #OceanScience #LivingFossil #OceanFacts #globalmuseum
