"I'm Every Woman" is a song by American singer #ChakaKhan, released in September 1978 by #WarnerBros as her debut solo single from her first album, #Chaka (1978). It was Khan's first hit outside her recordings with the #funk band #Rufus. "I'm Every Woman" was produced by #ArifMardin and written by the successful songwriting team #NickolasAshfordAndValerieSimpson. The single established Chaka's career outside the group Rufus.

Every year I put together a Funk Playlsit for #EarthWindAndFireDay but this year I decided what better way to celebrate the day than with some live performances from the godfathers of #funk. You can listen to a MegaMix of the annual playlists here (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLe3kSl6nSbfs&si=4QLR2xdr0RDXQjuT) #MusComEnt #RetroView

🎹 It was 1975. My beloved funk was integrating into my new obsession, jazz. Then Earth Wind & Fire teamed up with Ramsey Lewis. Glorious.

🔊 Three years later my college chums and I packed into a small dorm room with two towering speakers, turned out the lights, got high, and were transported by this big sound with ethereal voices that said so much without words.

CONTORTIONS Buy 1979 U.S. pressing One of the 4 artists that appear on the previously posted No New York compilation, & one of a FEW James Chance-adjacent albums I picked up today. Chance was a flamboyant saxophonist who was a very integral part of that late #70s /early #80s #nowave /#artrock scene in New York. He and The Contortions played a very #avantgarde kind of punky #funk music, with flourishes of #jazz as well. Buy was the original band’s ONLY record, coming a year AFTER that No New York compilation. Shortly after that, Chance became the star, and proceeded to have many different bands and projects over the years, including a “not at all the same” James Chance And The Contortions, which was just Chance and a bunch of other randoms. None of the post-Buy “Contortions” albums ever did much for me. THIS album is friggin great, though. Time and place, man. #vinyl #vinylrecords #vinylcommunity #records #vintage #retro #physicalmedia #analog #vinylcollection #art #music
