Regarding the recent South Park episode, I appreciate, aside from the meat eaters exploding, the subtle economics lesson of what happens when the luxury/bourgeois product called "beef" is scarce. As the main characters yearn for school lunches with local cow flesh, they have to realize that the 'free market' has delivered that luxury product to much richer consumers far away. That's highlighted by the rancher who's showing off his new wealth with jewelry. So much for "locavore." The episode doesn't get into CAFOs, but it does show the ideal case of welfarism and the delusional idea that the most resource intensive version of cow exploitation -- "grass fed" with extra welfare -- would be economically sustainable for the masses. The best and fairest solution is to abolish the animal exploitation industry. #reducetarian #vegetarian #vegan #govegan #Southpark #beef #SouthAmerica #capitalism #consumerism #bourgeois #ratRace

Last weekend’s brutal NYC heat wave had me craving a frozen drink almost every afternoon. Normally, that would mean sweating through a walk to 7-Eleven for a slurpee. This time, though, I stayed home and put the new Ninja Slushi Twist to the test. Ninja’s latest slushie machine builds on the popularity of the original […] https://techcrunch.com/2026/07/11/this-slushie-machine-was-a-lifesaver-during-nycs-heat-wave/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=mastodon

Forming abstract thoughts and ideas is one of the most primal abilities in a human species. How much is this ability of ours being used in the forming of current society, by governments and by corporations ? Around 1920 an idea started developing, that humans live in a dream world, that started being later picked up by marketing and governance. What makes You think that this foundational part of being a human isn't used in building current systems and exerting influence over masses, using this as their weak spot ? How much of current cosumerism and work culture is based on selling dreams and abstract ideas ? How much of sales is being made by convincing people of abstract needs and wants, they didn't even know they had or needed before coming in touch with those who try to sell it ? "American Dream" ? Dreams of freedom. Dreams of luxury. Dreams of riches. Dreams of convenience. Dreams of safety. Dreams of happiness. If we aren't just naive sheeps, who want simple things - love, belonging, community. Being sold knock off versions of it, symbols of human needs, without any tengible coverage... #world #government #bigcorp #consumerism #truth #history #abstracthoughts #primal #politics #dreams #psychology #marketing #freedom #humanspicies #anthropology #humansciences #socialsciences
