the key Q. in the economics of private provision of public goods (from health care to energy provision) is: does the opportunity to profit from services drive innovation & the development of efficiency of delivery, or; is profit just the outcome of the willingness to cut costs, whatever the impact on services, and user satisfaction. For supporters of privatisation the former is the analysis of choice; for critics, the evidence points unerringly to the latter. #privatisation #politics
