Blue Line ride no piece of cake when problems start at daybreak

Bright and early at 5:47 a.m., the MBTA announced bustitution between Airport and Government Center due to a dead train near Maverick. At 7:25, the T reported the train had been shoved out of the way and normal service was resuming. Until, that is, 8:15 a.m., when delays started due to a signal problem at Government Center.

Last night, it was another power wire falling on a train. This morning, the wires stayed up, but a Blue Line train died at Orient Heights, the MBTA reported at 10 a.m. No need to round up the usual buses this time, though - the T reported just four minutes later that service had resumed, but with 15-minute delays.

Oh, what a thrill: Dead train at Savin Hill

A Red Line train died at Savin Hill this morning and before MBTA crews could shove it out of the way, the T was reporting delays of up to 25 minutes for the Ashmont branch. The T declared the crisis at an end at 11:58 a.m., but like all good dead-train events, reported residual delays of up to 20 minutes on the branch.

Some D Line riders were fit to be tied, due to a power problem at Riverside Oh, did we mention the Blue Line again? https://www.universalhub.com/2026/some-d-line-riders-were-fit-be-tied-due-power-problem-riverside #MBTA #Boston #Newton #EastBoston #Revere

Of course, the aboveground Blue Line isn't the only T line that can have problems with overhead power wires. The MBTA had to resort to bustitution on the Green Line between Newton Highlands and Riverside this morning due to "an overhead wire problem" at Riverside. The T declared the catenary problem fixed shortly after 11 a.m. Read more.

Situation still not fine on the beleaguered Blue Line

So what else could go wrong on the Blue Line beside the bedeviled overhead power wire at Orient Heights? The MBTA is now reporting delays of "more than 30 minutes" due to a train that joined the choir eternal around 6:30 p.m. at Maverick. "Riders can use the SL3 bus or the East Boston Ferry for alternate service," the T says.
