#ensloppification

#Tech #Mastodon I have a question, does #NetBSD have binary forward compatibility (or whatever that would be called)? Like, if I build something using a shared libc and generally using dlopen() or other careful methods for external libraries, will that binary typicall continue to work on future releases of NetBSD as-is? I've heard FreeBSD tends to have that, OpenBSD apparently less so... Asking since I'm tempted to try #NetBSD due to the general #Linux #ensloppification situation :blobfoxangrylaugh: stop the #slop etc. by putting my money where my mouth is, at least if this turns out to be feasible...

@drew@social.freebitcoin.gay i wonder, has anybody ever asked #NetBSD to reconsider the "core can approve slop" clause, or to publish some info on whether core has approved #slop so far? sounds quite cool though! I'm still hoping somebody might fork an older #Linux #kernel - might be hard to keep that going but it would send a sign. #LLM #NoSlop #ensloppification #AI #NoAI #FreeSoftware #FOSS #FLOSS #OpenSource

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Carl_Zimmer/117345065655681591 Using AI for research in the natural sciences or math? This may help solving already well-defined problems, but more likely those anti-human bastards at #Anthropic and #OpenAI will steal your work and scoop you. The true victims: open-ended inquiry, robust knowledge of the world, and your academic career, if you're not playing along with the #ensloppification. This is not going to boost our intelligence, but destroy whatever is left of our grip on reality...

Let's take #windows11 as an example. I'd say its a victim of #ensloppification since #ai is the main contributor of making it worse and worse by forcing it into and even allow it to write code used in #windows. In other terms like privacy or performance it always was garbage by design, so hard to put it into #enshittification (making it worse there too to say) category. That said previously calling it a victim is quite an odd thing to say...
