  Being a fedi developer isn't easy, you need to prioritize people, admins and client developers. Balance feature requests across them, and prioritize safety + performance, while adapting your vision to meet the needs of your community and their communities. And you gotta market it, grow it, support it, fund it, build official mobile apps, and keep a consistent pace of evolution. You make it worth it though ❤️

I love building UIs, and I can't wait to ship the new Pixelfed redesign. It's ready but I'm waiting until Mastodon officially ships v5. Why? Because 😉

  I think it's pretty cool that @pixelfed@mastodon.social and @vernissage@mastodon.social are collaborating on FEPs and implementing each others, for the greater benefit of everyone! They wrote a pretty awesome EXIF data FEP, that is being implemented into Pixelfed and will be shipped later this year. Collaboration always beats competition. Embrace account migrations, and let the people find their best destination ❤️

  Pixelfed's other intern Tuk is lowkey scary, even though I'm his boss, we all know he runs the show. I'm pretty confident, but he has no problem walking over my keyboard to tell me that meeting could have been an email, and to buy him lunch because hes hungry. Not all 4 legged interns are equal, watch out folks.

  How am I so productive? I have two interns, Tuk and Jake. Meet Jake. He's shipped 0 lines of code, and prefers to leave early (immediately) for early brunch and then plays with toys, but he inspires the rest of the team (ok, only me) to work even harder because of his woof ethic. My advice, forget AI, get a 4 legged intern. Results are about the same 🤷

  I love the accusations of AI, ever since like 2019 people accused me of being a team of people. Most of my projects are years old, created before LLMs and have been written with love and passion for the open social web. You can also see the evolution of my design skills since I switched from bootstrap to tailwind. The very same TailwindUI lifetime subscription I use was also used to train those LLMs. Fuck AI, some people still love writing code by hand ❤️

  I shipped a new command to clear out old federated statuses on Pixelfed (without any local interactions) yesterday, and so far it's purged 80 million posts from the database! We don't cache remote media by default, so it's a pretty efficient process. The statuses table was over 300GB, and is estimated to be under 25GB when finished! #pixelfed
